Out of the Dark
Mr Twin Sister Lyrics

A little city
Red lights
Beam up our way, wish upon a star
Out of the dark
It's someone new
A thrill, mesmerized
A smile, behind her hands
The lip stick, the tiny skirts
Blow them a kiss
I am a women but inside I'm a man
And I want to be as gay as I can
A thrill, mesmerized
A smile, behind her hands
Seeing other boys
The lip stick, the tiny skirts
Blow them a kiss
A place that someone knew
A little city
Street tunnel
Beam up our way, wish upon a star
Out of the dark
It's someone new
Whatever happen to poor dear me?
Never see that face again
I don't want to leave
No one wants to leave
Funny how things have to end
(Whatever happen)
Whatever happen to poor dear me? (To poor dear me)
Never see that face again
I don't want to leave
No one wants to leave
Funny how things have to end
You're pushing on my identity
How much longer do I need to be
This version of me
The lyrics of "Out of the Dark" by Mr Twin Sister describe a mysterious night-time encounter in a city where the singer is drawn to someone new. The setting is vague, described only as "a little city" with "red lights" and a "street tunnel," but the sense of transportive enchantment is palpable. The singer is captivated by the appearance of other people, both women and men, who wear lipstick and tiny skirts and blow kisses. The singer sees these figures as symbols of freedom and liberation, a contrast to their own identity struggles. The final lines of the song suggest a feeling of confinement or self-doubt: "You're pushing on my identity / How much longer do I need to be / This version of me."
The ambiguity of the setting and the matter-of-fact tone of the lyrics leave much room for interpretation. It's possible that the encounter takes place in a queer nightlife scene, where the singer is discovering new possibilities for self-expression and gender presentation. Alternatively, the encounter could be a more surreal or dreamlike experience, where the singer is seeking a release from societal norms and expectations. The repeated refrain of "Whatever happen to poor dear me?" suggests a longing for something that is slipping away, whether it's a former sense of self or a connection to a particular person or place. Overall, "Out of the Dark" evokes a sense of fleeting, hypnotic beauty and a longing for deeper connection and freedom of expression.

It's my opinion that some of the best musicians try different things, even after they establish a solid sound that's the foundation of what they are known for. This is actually a lot better than most its musical "peers". Solid sequencing and smooth vocals that actually fit. I wouldn't be surprised if these guys were tapped to write stuff for the mega artists. Maybe they'll get around to polka after they tire of this.
