Her first release was the 1988 12-inch single "Hype According to Ms. Melodie", which, like most of her records, was produced by KRS-One. While they began recording her debut album, Ms. Melodie and the rest of BDP appeared in the Keenen Ivory Wayans film I'm Gonna Git You Sucka. Her only album, Diva, would be released the following year by Jive/RCA Records and was largely produced by KRS-One, with contributions from Sam Sever and the Awesome 2's DJ Teddy Tedd. The single "Wake Up, Wake Up" reached the top-20 of the Billboard Hot Rap Singles chart; the music video to its follow-up single "Live on Stage" was a hit on video stations. Melodie is also the older sister of fellow former BDP member Harmony. Melodie has not been heard from since.

I'm more than a pretty face, good looks stand in my way
Don't wave when you next see me, don't, don't
Who knew individuality came so easy
Flame after flame, disgrace they say to my fucking family name, is it sad that I feel the same?
Boy leaves dirt, but dirt doesn't leave boy
I ain't Ripley, but you best believe it
You're a stain in my bloodwork
Alter my face, change my name
Falter at the finish line
In Ms. Melodie's song "More," the lyrics suggest a struggle between the desire for control and the acceptance of one's limitations. The opening lines convey the power of a single note, which can overwhelm even a whole symphony. This serves as a metaphor for how one's struggles in life can often feel insurmountable, no matter how hard they try to fight against them. The line "But I can’t control and I can’t compete" shows the frustration of feeling powerless in the face of these struggles.
As the song progresses, the tone shifts, and the lyrics become more uplifting. The singer expresses a sense of fulfillment, having taken and given more, and feeling proud of their accomplishments. However, there is still a sense of ongoing struggle, as the war "whittles on," and the singer is "sobered by its soul and stride." This suggests that the journey towards one's goals is ongoing, and that just as they may experience moments of triumph, they must also be prepared to face setbacks and challenges along the way.
Overall, "More" conveys a message of perseverance in the face of adversity. It acknowledges that there will be moments of defeat and powerlessness, but emphasizes the importance of continuing to strive towards one's goals, no matter how difficult the road may be.
