Her first release was the 1988 12-inch single "Hype According to Ms. Melodie", which, like most of her records, was produced by KRS-One. While they began recording her debut album, Ms. Melodie and the rest of BDP appeared in the Keenen Ivory Wayans film I'm Gonna Git You Sucka. Her only album, Diva, would be released the following year by Jive/RCA Records and was largely produced by KRS-One, with contributions from Sam Sever and the Awesome 2's DJ Teddy Tedd. The single "Wake Up, Wake Up" reached the top-20 of the Billboard Hot Rap Singles chart; the music video to its follow-up single "Live on Stage" was a hit on video stations. Melodie is also the older sister of fellow former BDP member Harmony. Melodie has not been heard from since.

Cucu, cucu
Cucu, cucu, cucu, cu
Cucu, cucu, cucu, cu
Cucu, cucu, cucu, cu
Ay mami no te canses ahora
Perreo sucio, te descontrolas
Si se pone celoso traigo la pistola
Moviendo ese cucu
Cucu, cucu, cucu, cu
Cucu, cucu, cucu, cu
Cucu, cucu, cucu, cu
Cucu, cucu
Perreo sucio
Cucu, cucu, cucu, cu
Cucu, cucu, cucu, cu
Cucu, cucu, cucu, cu
Cucu, cucu
Perreando por fuera, llorando por dentro
The Mixtape
Ms. Nina
The lyrics of Ms. Melodie's song Intro are a celebration of perreo, a sexually charged dance that originated in Puerto Rico in the mid-1990s and has become popular in Latin America and beyond. The song begins with the phrase "Bueno bueno bueno bueno, como ustedes saben" ("Well well well well, as you know"), which signals that something exciting is about to happen. The next line, "Puedes salir del perreo, pero el perreo nunca saldrá de ti" ("You can leave perreo, but perreo will never leave you"), suggests that perreo is more than just a dance, it's a way of life.
The rest of the song is devoted to exhorting the listener to move their "cucu", which is a playful way of referring to the buttocks. The repetition of "cucu, cucu, cucu, cu" creates a hypnotic rhythm that is designed to get people dancing. The lyrics also make reference to "perreo sucio," which means "dirty perreo," and suggests that the dance is meant to be sensual and a little bit scandalous. The line "Ay mami no te canses ahora / Perreo sucio, te descontrolas" ("Don't get tired now, mommy / Dirty perreo, you lose control") reinforces that idea.
The final line of the song, "Perreando por fuera, llorando por dentro / The Mixtape / Ms. Nina," is a reference to the fact that the song is part of a mixtape by Ms. Nina, a Spanish singer who is known for her reggaeton and perreo-inspired music. The line "Perreando por fuera, llorando por dentro" ("Dancing on the outside, crying on the inside") suggests that perreo can be a mask for deeper emotions, and that the dance can be both liberating and a little bit sad.
