Her first release was the 1988 12-inch single "Hype According to Ms. Melodie", which, like most of her records, was produced by KRS-One. While they began recording her debut album, Ms. Melodie and the rest of BDP appeared in the Keenen Ivory Wayans film I'm Gonna Git You Sucka. Her only album, Diva, would be released the following year by Jive/RCA Records and was largely produced by KRS-One, with contributions from Sam Sever and the Awesome 2's DJ Teddy Tedd. The single "Wake Up, Wake Up" reached the top-20 of the Billboard Hot Rap Singles chart; the music video to its follow-up single "Live on Stage" was a hit on video stations. Melodie is also the older sister of fellow former BDP member Harmony. Melodie has not been heard from since.

Be there
All you gotta do is feel right
When I need
All you gotta do is
All you gotta do
All you gotta do
Be real be you be careful
All you gotta do
Work smart not hard
Cause you know I love
When you're in charge
Love it love it
When you when you
In charge
I love it when you
Work smart and not hard
I love it when you do all
The simple thangs
I love it when you
Love it when you
Build and change
I'm into loving on a deeper
Level look ahead
And when I don't see you
With me
I'll just move ahead
It ain't just about the money
That's just what it is
That's going keep on coming
In I've been doing that
It ain't on me it ain't on me
Gotta be built to last
Your energy your energy
Can't be moving too fast
On top of things
On top of things
Can't run out of gas
Your expertise
Coding games and saving
Some cash
On a roll on a roll
Getting doe
Kissing slow
On a boat
Got that glow
Got that glow
And I know Fa sho
That you're in my flow
And I know Fa sho
That we can grow some
More some more
All you gotta do is be nice
All you gotta do is be nice
Be there
All you gotta do is feel right
When I need
All you gotta do is
All you gotta do is
All you gotta do
Be real be you be careful
What you do
Al you gotta do is
All you gotta do is be nice
Be there
All you gotta do is feel right
When I need
All you gotta do is
All you gotta do
All you gotta do
Be real be you be careful
What you do
All you gotta do
Work smart not hard
Cause you know I love
When you're in charge
The lyrics of Ms. Melodie's song "What Do You Do" talk about the importance of being a supportive and caring partner who is present, authentic, and responsible in a relationship. The opening lines suggest that being nice and being there for the other person is all that matters, implying that relationships are built on small gestures of kindness and empathy. The chorus repeats the same message, urging the listener to be real, be themselves, and be careful with their actions.
The second verse encourages the listener to work smart and not hard, which could be a metaphor for not exerting unnecessary effort in the relationship or any other aspect of life. It also highlights the importance of taking charge and being knowledgeable in one's field of expertise, which could be attractive to the singer. The bridge acknowledges that while money is important, it is not the only factor in a relationship that matters; instead, building a lasting connection built on energy, effort, and compatibility is essential.
Overall, the song is a tribute to healthy, nurturing relationships that are built on mutual support, openness, and honesty. It emphasizes the need to be present for each other, work hard, and grow together to create a secure and fulfilling future.

I remember having the 12inch. I was into KRS-1/BDP and I was the type of fan that would buy anything associated with the artist. Hip Hop was still in it's golden age of the record industry. Don't even know how I found out about this because many R&B stations sill were not playing Hip Hop music in their regular rotation.
