No Idea
Muna Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I think you think I'm like a virgin
Not in a biblical sense
You think I'm nervous and uncertain
Because I'm waiting

You seem like such a good thing, a good thing
I know that good things take time
I keep it so clean, so clean
But baby in the back of my mind

You have no idea, you have no idea
The things I think about you when you aren't here
You have no idea, you have no idea
But when you find out it's all you're gonna hear

Ringing in your ears, ooh
I'll be ringing in your ears, ooh

There is a ring around my finger
Left when I pulled it from my lips
You see me unfolding a napkin
You see me give it a kiss

And you have no idea, you have no idea
The things I think about you when you aren't here
You have no idea, you have no idea
But when you find out it's all you're gonna hear

Ringing in your ears, ooh
I'll be ringing in your ears, ooh

You think I'm such a good thing, a good thing
(You have no idea)
You think I'm such a good thing, a good thing

(You have no idea)
The things I think about you
When you find out it's all you're gonna hear
So tell me when you want to (want to)

Come and find out
Leave me ringing in your-

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Muna's song "No Idea" explore the singer's hidden thoughts and desires for someone they are involved with. From the beginning, the singer suggests that the other person underestimates them, viewing them as inexperienced or unsure. However, the singer knows that good things take time and keeps their feelings and intentions concealed. The line "Because I'm waiting" implies that the singer may be waiting for the right moment or for the other person to discover their true feelings.

The chorus emphasizes the idea that the other person has no idea about the intense thoughts the singer has about them when they are not around. These thoughts are so strong that they will consume the other person once they are revealed. The repetition of "You have no idea, you have no idea" emphasizes the secrecy and intensity of the singer's feelings. The mention of "ringing in your ears" suggests that once the other person finds out about the singer's thoughts, it will be impossible to ignore or forget.

In the second verse, the lyrics introduce the motif of a ring. The singer talks about a ring around their finger, possibly symbolizing a commitment to the person they desire. The act of unfolding a napkin and giving it a kiss further symbolizes their affection and hidden desires. The repetition of the chorus reinforces the singer's anticipation of the other person discovering their true feelings.

what is she actually saying in the 2nd verse? probably obvious but my brain is blanking here.

cork

@sdfdksfjksd ik this is 5 months late but i think its implied that the 'ring' on the singers finger in the second verse isnt actually jewelry, but a ring of lipstick left on her skin after having her finger in her mouth, presumably to suck on it
