1) Must started when Australian-born Dave Ireland moved to London and met wandering drummer Reuben Alexander. Ireland convinced Alexander to work with him at a club one night, which resulted in a three-day party that ended with the two musicians jamming. They auditioned countless bassists until finally German transplant Kai Lemke filled the spot. They gigged around London and were met enthusiastically by rock fans, although the dominant dance scene in the town often overshadowed their efforts. Their first wide release, 2002's Androgynous Jesus, was also the first opportunity they had to present their music outside of Britain.
2)A Norwegian rock band. They play something they call energic stone-rock with elements from pop and punk. The band delivers strong songs with melodylines that easily gets to your head.
3) A French disco band from the late '70s with best known track 'Sado Maso Disco' (1978).
4)A hungarian punkrock band with funny lyrics and snotty guitarriffs.
Bubblegum Sleaze
Must Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
With this bubblegum sleaze
An imposter on the scene
There's only air between my ears
Yes there is
I like the difference
Lord knows I needed change
From that opaque head state
To run down the avenue
Naked with my friends
Well it simply turns me on
A bit like sal with his bongs
I've accepted that I'm screwed
And found a whole new altitude
Let the animals loose
I know I have been a bit
Of a shit to be with
But I can't stop till I'm dead
Well how far can you go
Before you revile the staid
Seems an attitude prevails
That's loathe to recognize the soul is wild
Deep inside
The lyrics to Must's song Bubblegum Sleaze speak to a sense of rebellion and desire for change within oneself - a feeling that many people can relate to. The opening lines suggest a questioning of who the persona is trying to please with their "bubblegum sleaze." They acknowledge that they may be an imposter on the scene, and there is "only air between [their] ears." These lines imply the persona's recognition that they may be putting on a persona or acting a certain way to fit in, but they may not truly feel comfortable or authentic in that role.
The second verse speaks to a desire for change, a sense of feeling stuck in an "opaque head state." The persona talks about wanting to break free and run down the avenue naked with their friends as a form of release from their current state. They also mention feeling turned on by this new attitude, similar to a character named Sal and his bongs. The image of "letting the animals loose" reinforces a sense of energy and wildness being unleashed within the persona.
The final verse speaks to a sense of defiance towards societal norms and staid attitudes towards individuality. The persona asks how far one can go before being seen as reviling the staid, suggesting that they see the mainstream as preventing people from acknowledging their wild, authentic selves. The song as a whole seems to embrace a sense of rebellion and nonconformity, while also acknowledging a vulnerability and desire for authenticity within oneself.
