I Like
My Girl Friday Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I like the way you drink wine and whiskey on Saturday night
Like that way that you can't find what to wear when you wake up
And I like the way that you look in my shirt on my bed and I'm hooked
Like the way that you say the cigarettes will kill me some day.
And I know you're right
You make me feel all right

(Chorus)
'Cause I like the way you look in the mornin'
I like the nights where you're wrapped around me
I like the way you whisper, "What you wanna do?"
Yeah I like the way you love me too
Woah, Woah
Yeah I like the way you love me too
Woah, Woah

I like the way that you sing all those country songs to me
Like the way that you bring out the better man in me
And I know you're right
You make me feel all right

(Chorus)
"Cause I like the way you look in the mornin'
I like the nights where you're wrapped around me
I like the way you whisper, "What you wanna do?"
Woah,
I like the way we fight and kiss and break up
I like the way we always seem to make up
I like the way you win and I always lose
Yeah I like the way you love me too
Woah, Woah
Yeah I like the way you love me too
Woah, Woah

Well I hope you're waiting by the door when I get home
'cause when I'm gone,
You're what I miss the most
There's a missing thread in my bed
I'll think of all those words we said
And I'll wish for you what you wish for me too

(Chorus)
'Cause I like the way you look in the morning
I like the nights where you're wrapped around me
I like the way you whisper, "What you wanna do?"
Yeah I like the way you love me too
I like the way we fight and kiss and break up
I like the way we always seem to make up
I like the way you win and I always lose
Yeah I like the way you love me too
Woah, Woah

Yeah I like the way you love me too
Woah, Woah

I remembered when I first watched this film, I didn't want it to end. I absolutely adore the dialogue and pacing. Thats why I knew the terrorists from "North to Northwest" didn't stand a chance against Cary Grant. He won tougher battles, like overturning his divorce with Hildy Johnson!

ThomasFromTN

I especially enjoyed when the female character referred to Black toddlers as "Pickaninnies".

one of my favorite movies, Rosalind Russell and Cary Grant were brilliant. The dialogue was crisp and hysterical.

@Mark Parkinson I've just seen this film for the first time and have a different perspective. While Burns (Grant) did come off as annoying sometimes, I've found that most chief editors were (and are). That did not diminish the wit and humor of the film for me as I was either smiling or laughing most of the time. I did not like the Bruce Character at all, well played by Bellamy. I was actually looking forward to his eventual comeuppance! Rosalind Russell as Hildy was amazing. Hildy and Burns, both imperfect, were a perfect match, the tragic ending would have been for her to have ended up with Bruce (and his mother).

@Æthelhadas How wonderful that we had a similar sense of humour during that movie. And that’s good that Cary Grant is one of your favourite actors! Has “His Girl Friday” convinced you into seeing his other movies, and has those movies made you like him as an actor?
In any case, I an glad of your positivity.

And to respond to your question, I am currently finishing up watching Bennett Miller’s 2011 film called “Moneyball”.
I have not completed the film yet, due to how busy I am, but I will definitely get around to it.

And I hope you enjoy Gone With The Wind too.

@Mark Parkinson I only laughed at the same scene! It definitely left me hoping for more like the scene while I was watching it. Thankfully I got introduced to Cary Grant who is now my favourite actor so it’s all good now. I’m now watching Gone With The Wind but haven’t finished it yet. Are you watching any movie/tv series currently?

Mark Parkinson

@Æthelhadas I actually wanted Hildy to end up with Bruce as well! Burns wasn't that funny, so he just comes off as extremely annoying, so it was almost a tragic ending for Hildy.
I agree with you, although I was able to get a chuckle out of the scene when Burns mistakes Bruce for someone else.
Aside from that, I don't think I have even let out a smile throughout the whole film.

Æthelhadas

@Mark Parkinson Same here. The movie lost me after Bruce wasn’t in it anymore and it was just about Burns and Hildy. I didn’t like Burns at all. I wanted Hildy to end up with Bruce. The majority of this film was chaotic and I didn’t understand much of what was going on. And didn’t laugh like I did with Roman Holiday. I even sort of regretted watching it. But it’s ok I guess.
