Love and South have been close friends since childhood and have played in bands that were often booked on the same bill. Both of them come from a mixed background; Love is of Iranian and Nigerian descent, and South is of Jamaican and Australian descent. (Georgia South's father, William South, is also a musician). They formed a band together in 2014 named BRAATS, releasing the song "Bad Bitches" under that name. Later that year they settled on the name Nova Twins, and released their first song "Bassline Bitch" under that name, in April 2015. That song attracted the attention of independent label Robotunes, which signed them and released their first self-titled EP in 2016.
After a show at French festival Rencontres Trans Musicales in December 2016, Nova Twins spent most of 2017 touring multiple countries and supported Prophets of Rage, after which Tom Morello named them "the best band you've never heard of". They have since supported Wolf Alice, Little Simz, Dream Wife, Black Honey, and Skunk Anansie. In 2017 they self-released the singles "Thelma & Louise" and "Mood Swings", and started their own custom clothing line called Bad Stitches.
In 2018, Nova Twins self-released the singles "Hit Girl" and "Lose Your Head". They continued to tour with shows in Europe and America, including an appearance at the Afropunk festival in Brooklyn. Towards the end of that year they started recording their debut album with producer Jim Abbiss. In 2019, they toured with Fever 333 and again Prophets of Rage. The singles "Devil's Face" and "Vortex" from their upcoming album were released with accompanying music videos. They also collaborated with several brands, including Dr Martens on a global campaign, contributing both music and visuals. It was revealed later in the year that they had been signed to Fever 333's label 333 Wreckords Crew.
Their debut album Who Are the Girls? was released on February 28, 2020.[ Who Are the Girls? received positive reviews at Kerrang!, Crash, and elsewhere. The band won Best U.K. Breakthrough Band in the 2020 Heavy Music Awards. Their second album Supernova was released on June 17, 2022. Supernova was shortlisted for the 2022 Mercury Prize.
Lose Your Head
NOVA TWINS Lyrics

I'm a little overdressed, I'm at my best
Stop stalking
You stop and stare keep pulling on air
Keep walking
You want to see a casualty, you're all looking at me
Keep looking at me
An enticing hex that will leave debris
In the morning
You wipe your specs
Your eyeballs can't stop rolling
Wind up your neck and lose your head
Watch them lose their heads
Now lose your head
I'm on the wild side, baby
Play with wildfire, baby
(Lose your head)
Get on the wild side
Come play with wildfire
Look who's talking
You're a prime suspect
I'm looking at a dead man walking
We play with darts and pierce their hearts with poison
If you fuck with me, one, two, three, heed my warning (warning)
Warning, warning
I'm on the wild side, baby
Play with wildfire, baby
(Lose your head)
Get on the wild side
Come play with wildfire
(Lose your head, lose your head)
I'm on the wild side, baby
Play with wildfire, baby
(Lose your head lose your head)
Get on the wild side
Come play with wildfire
Fuck your clique
Bow to the freaks
I'd rather be just crazy
Fuck your clique
Fuck your clique
Fuck your clique
Love to watch them lose their heads
Love to watch them lose their heads
Love to watch them lose their heads
Wind it up and lose your head
I'm on the wild side, baby
Play with wildfire, baby
(Lose your head)
Get on the wild side
Come play with wildfire
(Lose your head, lose your head)
I'm on the wild side, baby
Play with wildfire, baby
(Lose your head, lose your head)
I'm on the wild side
Come play with wildfire
The lyrics of "Lose Your Head" by NOVA TWINS are a fierce and empowering anthem that speaks to breaking free from societal expectations and embracing one's wild side. The song starts with the singer confidently asserting themselves, feeling overdressed but at their best, and challenging those who judge them to keep looking. The idea of being a casualty of scrutiny is flipped around as the singer declares that it is those looking at them who will ultimately lose their heads.
As the song progresses, there is a powerful shift in tone as the lyrics delve into themes of defiance and rebellion. The idea of an enticing hex leaving debris in the morning suggests a destructive force at play, with the singer warning that those who dare to challenge them will face consequences. The imagery of losing one's head is a metaphor for letting go of inhibitions, embracing chaos, and taking risks without fear of consequences.
The chorus emphasizes the singer's embrace of the wild side and playing with fire, symbolizing a willingness to push boundaries and defy norms. The repeated refrain to "lose your head" echoes a call to throw caution to the wind and embrace the unpredictable and the unknown. It's a bold declaration of living life on their own terms and not conforming to societal expectations.
The defiant attitude continues as the lyrics reject the idea of conforming to a clique or group mentality. The repeated refrain of "Fuck your clique" and "Bow to the freaks" emphasizes a preference for individuality and authenticity over fitting in. The singer takes pleasure in watching others lose their heads, celebrating the freedom and power that comes from breaking free from conformity. In essence, "Lose Your Head" is a rebellious anthem that encourages listeners to embrace their uniqueness, take risks, and live boldly on their own terms.

Someone posted this band on tiktok to give black alt bands more exposure.I’m so glad I looked this band up, they’re so rad.

@Juanmolt yeah, it just gets tiring seeing people think they deserve recognition for literally just listening to music made by poc. Like we’re all here for the same song, not impressed.
Juanmolt
@Caleb Wagner damn you good?
Caleb Wagner
@pls A: if this is the only poc you have in you’re pop/punk playlist, you don’t listen to enough music.
B: you don’t win some kind of metal for just listening to black music, idk why it matters to you that other people know you do. We’re all here to listen to the same song, no ones impressed with the white savior shit.
pls

I hear a mix of influences that includes the Prodigy for sure which is the bridge between EDM and Punk. I also hear influences of .Gwen Stefani and No Doubt and Nu Metal bands like Korn. The Twins really have something. They should be more famous
