Love and South have been close friends since childhood and have played in bands that were often booked on the same bill. Both of them come from a mixed background; Love is of Iranian and Nigerian descent, and South is of Jamaican and Australian descent. (Georgia South's father, William South, is also a musician). They formed a band together in 2014 named BRAATS, releasing the song "Bad Bitches" under that name. Later that year they settled on the name Nova Twins, and released their first song "Bassline Bitch" under that name, in April 2015. That song attracted the attention of independent label Robotunes, which signed them and released their first self-titled EP in 2016.
After a show at French festival Rencontres Trans Musicales in December 2016, Nova Twins spent most of 2017 touring multiple countries and supported Prophets of Rage, after which Tom Morello named them "the best band you've never heard of". They have since supported Wolf Alice, Little Simz, Dream Wife, Black Honey, and Skunk Anansie. In 2017 they self-released the singles "Thelma & Louise" and "Mood Swings", and started their own custom clothing line called Bad Stitches.
In 2018, Nova Twins self-released the singles "Hit Girl" and "Lose Your Head". They continued to tour with shows in Europe and America, including an appearance at the Afropunk festival in Brooklyn. Towards the end of that year they started recording their debut album with producer Jim Abbiss. In 2019, they toured with Fever 333 and again Prophets of Rage. The singles "Devil's Face" and "Vortex" from their upcoming album were released with accompanying music videos. They also collaborated with several brands, including Dr Martens on a global campaign, contributing both music and visuals. It was revealed later in the year that they had been signed to Fever 333's label 333 Wreckords Crew.
Their debut album Who Are the Girls? was released on February 28, 2020.[ Who Are the Girls? received positive reviews at Kerrang!, Crash, and elsewhere. The band won Best U.K. Breakthrough Band in the 2020 Heavy Music Awards. Their second album Supernova was released on June 17, 2022. Supernova was shortlisted for the 2022 Mercury Prize.

NOVA TWINS Lyrics

Can you tick tock?
Can you tie knots? Can I get some?
Open your mouth, need stamina
Moves like a hammer-on
If you don't, please let me know
Big, bad candy man
I'm only here for one thing
If you didn't, now you know
Big, bad, candy man
Give a dog a bone
When I call his name
He likes to dip his head down low
Ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh
Lay it out in front of me
If I don't like what I see
Next in line, get the boot
If he's cute, skip the queue
You are just a trend (yeah)
I change it up again (yeah)
He only gets a call back
If he's good at giving head, yeah
Big, bad candy man
Give a dog a bone
Don't want you for your money
I make dollar on my own
Big, bad candy man
Give a girl a bone
Don't want you to love me
You just need to make me moan
Ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh
What you saying?
I like them playboy freaks
I'm complicated
Like solving puzzles in the sheets
I'm dominating
Boy, you better bring the heat
I need a soldier
Someone who can take care of me
I need a big, bad candy man
Give a girl a bone
When I call his name
He likes to give it nice and slow
Big, bad candy man
You already know
Don't ever get it twisted
I do better on my own
S-e-x (you're running out of time)
(Get me to the finish line)
S-e-x (bitch, did I hurt your pride?)
S-e-x (bitch, you're running out of time)
(Get me to the finish line)
S-e-x (did I hurt your fucking pride?)
I like them big boys, dirty boys
Don't want no scrub, unemployed
Shy boys that bite boys
Think out the box, play with toys
Yes men, don't think men
Just do it good over again
Wild boys excite boys
When I say jump, you say when
Ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh
The lyrics to NOVA TWINS's song "Puzzles" express themes of empowerment and assertiveness in sexuality. The song begins with the line "Open your mouth, let it drip off," which can be interpreted as a call to embrace personal expression and speak without inhibition. The mention of ticking clocks and tying knots suggests a desire for someone who can keep up with their pace and engage in adventurous activities. They ask, "Can I get some?" indicating their desire for satisfaction and pleasure.
The chorus introduces the concept of a "big, bad candy man" who can fulfill their desires and give them what they want. This candy man is associated with both pleasure and power, as they can "dip their head down low" and provide satisfaction. The singers assert their independence by stating that they don't need this candy man for money, as they are capable of making their own. They emphasize their preference for pleasure over love and make it clear that their focus is on their own satisfaction and pleasure rather than emotional connection.
The lyrics also explore the idea of being unconventional and not wanting to conform to societal norms. The singers reject being just a trend and state that they can change things up again. They express a preference for partners who are skilled in certain acts, highlighting the importance of sexual compatibility. The phrase "give a girl a bone" can be interpreted as a metaphor for fulfilling their desires and providing pleasure.
The bridge of the song reinforces the theme of assertiveness and empowerment in sexuality. The singer describes herself as someone who likes "playboy freaks" and compares solving puzzles in the sheets to being complicated and dominant. They express a need for a partner who can match their intensity and take care of them, describing a soldier-like figure. The repeated refrain of "Ooh, ooh" adds a sense of excitement and anticipation to the lyrics.
The song concludes with a final section that emphasizes their preference for "big boys" and independent individuals who are not afraid to think outside the box. They appreciate those who can take initiative and repeat the line "when I say jump, you say when," indicating their desire for a willing participant in their adventures. Overall, the lyrics of "Puzzles" convey a message of self-empowerment, sexual assertiveness, and the pursuit of personal pleasure.
