As a singer, Naaz initially gained media attention as a participant in the Holland's Got Talent TV show in 2014, but her independent career in electronic indie pop seriously took off in 2016 when she started to release singles on Spotify. 'Sadboy' (2016) was the first, although Naaz herself feels that was "just a sketch". She considers 'Words' (2017) to be her proper début song.
Naaz released a string of singles and two EPs: Bits of Naaz (2018) and The Beautiful Struggle (2019).
She disappeared from the spotlights for a year or two, battled some demons and returned as an independent artist in May 2022 - a woman rather than a girl, relocated from Rotterdam to Amsterdam - with the single 'Sad Violins' and, in January 2023, the album Never Have I Ever.

I'm still thinking 'bout you
If I don't
Love, then what will I do
Reality's
Here but not coming through
In my mind
But in life
We can't stand in those shoes
It's something I know
Before our debut
We can't be together
I don't think I care
As long as I can think about you
In my head forever
I will not forget
Said I'll always think about you
We can't be together
I don't think I care
As long as I can think about you
In my head forever
I will not forget
Said I'll always think about you
Maybe I'm
Not as real as I think
In daytime my
Mind and heart ain't in sync
But at night
I only sleep through my blinks
Struggling
To know what's going on
Overthinking
I hope that is my song
'Cause if it is
I could play out the wrongs
We can't be together
I don't think I care
As long as I can think about you
In my head forever
I will not forget
Said I'll always think about you
We can't be together
I don't think I care
As long as I can think about you
In my head forever
I will not forget
Said I'll always think about you
The song "Can't" by Naaz is a poignant reflection on an unfulfilled love. The lyrics speak of the singer's ongoing thoughts and feelings about a person she cannot be with. The opening lines speak of summertime, evoking a sense of warmth and relaxation. However, the singer's mind is still consumed by thoughts of this person, even in the midst of the season's carefree atmosphere. She wonders what she will do if she cannot love them, and feels that reality itself is not coming through for her.
The following lines contrast the possibilities that exist in her mind with the limitations of real life. In her mind, she can be with the person she desires, but in reality, it is impossible. This seems to be a source of pain and longing for the singer, even as she acknowledges that it is something she has known from the beginning. However, she also expresses a kind of resignation - as long as she can think about this person, that may be enough for her.
Later in the song, the singer questions her own reality, admitting that her mind and heart don't always feel in sync. She describes how, at night, she sleeps through her blinks, suggesting a kind of restless inability to let go of this person. Overall, "Can't" is a bittersweet ballad that explores the complexity of unrequited love and the ways in which it can shape our thoughts and feelings over time.
