During Nan's teenage years in Los Angeles, according to an interview in Cosmopolitan magazine, she discovered magic mushrooms and the guitar.
She played in a late 80's band called Babooshka, and in the 90's joined the touring bands both for ex-Police guitarist Andy Summers, and ex-Eurythmics co-founder Dave Stewart's backing band, The Spiritual Cowboys.
After a couple years in the UK and working with producers like Ian Stanley and Dave Stewart she eventually released several collaborations, some singles and her own debut album Manta Ray for Elektra in 1995 and a beautiful version of Moon River for a Del-Fi compilation of Henry Mancini songs, Shots in the Dark.
Record company coordination, and promotional support, both in the UK and the US, were fraught with difficulty, and her US label East/West folded shortly after her debut. Little was heard from the promising Ms. Vernon after this period.
No More Lullabyes

Say to me what you′re hiding from me
You split the world in two
Saving me from who
This indecisition is killing you
No more lullabyes
He said with his face in his hands
And I'm moving to France
No more lullabyes
Wipe the tears from your eyes
This comes as no surprise
You′re no angel
Stand up to your pride
File the figures down to size
You′re wasting precious time
You're no angel you can′t protect me
Free yourself like no one else can
No more lullabyes
He said with his face in his hands
I'm breaking this contract
And I′m moving to France
No more lullabyes
Wipe the tears from your eyes
This comes as no surprise
Life's a funny thing
It never starts
It never stops
No more lullabyes
He said with his face in his hands
I′m breaking this contract
And I'm moving to France
No more lullabyes
Wipe the tears from your eyes
This comes as no surprise
No more lullabyes
No more lullabyes
The lyrics of Nan Vernon's song "No More Lullabyes" talk about a person who portrays themselves as an angel but is not genuine. The lyrics say "you're no angel, don't pretend to be" which questions somebody's real motive. The verse "Say to me what you're hiding from me" implies that something is being hidden, and the person is not being truthful.
The lyrics express a sense of indecisiveness, which, according to the song, is killing the person. The line "This indecision is killing you" indicates that the confusion and hesitation are not only harming the other people involved but are also self-destructing. The chorus "No More Lullabies" means the end of the lies and deception, which have led to the realization that the person singing the song cannot be protected by the one they thought was their guardian angel. The phrase "life's a funny thing, it never starts, it never stops" can be interpreted as life being uncertain and unpredictable, and it can throw unexpected things at people.
