Lady Bird
Nancy and Lee Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've been where the eagle flies
Rode his wings 'cross autumn skies
Kissed the sun, touched the moon
But he left me much too soon
His lady bird
He left his lady bird

Lady bird come on down
I'm here waiting on the ground
Lady bird I'll treat you good
Aw, lady bird I wish you would
You lady bird
Pretty lady bird

Lightning flashed across the sky
The night he taught me how to fly
The sun came up and then I found
Too soon he let his lady down
His lady bird
I'm his lady bird

Lady bird come on down
I'm here waiting on the ground
Lady bird I'll treat you good
Aw, lady bird I wish you would
You lady bird
Pretty lady bird

Winter lives in my heart
In the times we're apart
Summer sings a song or two
When he says "I love you true"
My lady bird
Yeah, I'm his lady bird

Lady bird come on down
I'm here waiting on the ground
Lady bird I'll treat you good
Aw, lady bird I wish you would
You lady bird
Pretty lady bird (I'm your lady bird)

You're a lady bird (Yes, I'm a lady bird)
You're too much you little bird

Overall Meaning

The song "Lady Bird" by Nancy and Lee tells the story of a woman who has been where the eagle flies and kissed the sun and touched the moon. She longs for the eagle who left her too soon, addressing him as "his lady bird" and "my lady bird" throughout the song. She recalls a time when the eagle taught her how to fly and how he let his lady down too soon. She wishes the lady bird would come down to her, promising to treat her well and expressing her love for her.

The lyrics of the song are a metaphor for a woman who has fallen in love with a man who is adventurous, free-spirited, and elusive like an eagle. The woman sees herself as the eagle's lady bird, a title that suggests her strong attachment to him, and her willingness to take risks and soar with him. She longs for his return and seems to be pining for him in his absence.

The song's lyrics capture the essence of romantic yearning and unrequited love. The woman's longing for the eagle transcends the physical realm; it's more a spiritual union than a mere physical attraction. The lyrics and melody paint a poignant image of two birds flying together, free and in love, but separated by the winds of fate. Overall, the song "Lady Bird" is a romantic, melancholic, and deeply moving ballad.

It was a cold day in France, my friend died at 20 years old.
It was a small village near Annecy, a month ago, the last time I saw him, he put this music on his phone.
The day we made the funeral was a stormy and windy day. His mother put this music in the silent village, and we cried for him. I can't describe in english this feeling, neither in french.
I love you G.
