It Never Ends
Nas Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Buckets like Gilligan
Still I peep reptilians in the Filligan
Blendin' in, my quintillion ton brain
Got me revealing men
Quintessential Queensbridge poet back to the grill again
Did songs with Chubb Rock to Chris Brown, switch styles
Yet to see any heavyweight make it to this round
This that pure champion sound, I wear the crizzown
Raw, one take, I don't even need a mixdown
Demure, not docile, volatile, I kick down
Amphibians, reptiles who make that hiss sound
They eyes change color, their pupils start to slit down
When I take cover, and I let off a fifth round

I got seven MAC-11s, about eight .38s
Nine 9s, ten MAC-10s, the shit never ends
Rest in peace to B.I., the shit never ends
B.I.G. shit
I got seven MAC-11s, about eight .38s
Nine 9s, ten MAC-10s, the shit never ends (Never ends, never ends)
The world's going crazy, this shit never ends (Never ends, never ends)

Stop waiting for the hood to 'preciate ya
Whoever gets love in the hood, he's a freak of nature
When I said I wasn't mainstream, lames scream
"What does he mean?
Who does he think he is?
His bank be hid, he hardly out
He still as hard as he was when he started out"
We count 'em out, we count 'em in
Amongst the real, never my crown in doubt
So around my house with my wiz, lessons I got from my friends
Do they love me for me or love me for them?

I got seven MAC-11s, about eight .38s
Nine 9s, ten MAC-10s, the shit never ends
The world's at war, the shit never ends
Everybody packin'
I got seven MAC-11s, about eight .38s
Nine 9s, ten MAC-10s, the shit never ends (Never ends, never ends)
It never ends, the shit never ends (Never ends, never ends)
What will it take to end?

Can't see me moving, I'm like the fastest
I'm a 3D movie, no need of glasses
They hate it before they hear it
Clear that my perseverance is somethin' they can't bear
It's become apparently clear
They fear me, I'm not dying or rather
Put my ears to the blaring cop siren
Am I here or in a hot dryer?
Didn't hear all that pop-soundin' fakespeare, pop rhymin'
Niggas should stop lyin'
Why in a whole year, you still in the same spot trying
To change, but you not risin'?
When will somebody real tell him he not Nas-in'
Cars, you just started drivin'
I've been ridin', been made it

You and your pretend stages
I did this since windbreakers (Windbreakers)

Overall Meaning

In Nas's song "It Never Ends," he incorporates several themes, including violence in the hood, reptilians, and fake rappers. The first verse begins with him referencing Gilligan, the character from the popular TV show Gilligan's Island, to describe how he collects money or "buckets." Then he talks about how he can still spot reptilians, referencing conspiracy theories that suggest some people may be alien or reptiles in disguise. Nas also mentions his intelligence, stating that he has a "quintillion ton brain" that allows him to see through fake people. Despite collaborating with different artists throughout his career, he asserts that none of them have been able to match his skills or make it to his level of expertise.

The second verse touches on the struggles of being a successful rapper in the music industry. Nas suggests that the people in his neighborhood do not appreciate him, and those who do are seen as "freaks of nature." He also discusses how he is not mainstream, questioning why people cannot understand that. Although he has achieved a lot in his career, he still questions if his friends love him for who he is or for their benefit. In the third verse, Nas encourages rappers to stop pretending and be true to themselves. He asks why they are still in the same spot after a year and not growing while he has been doing this since "windbreakers."

Don't wait for people in your neighborhood to appreciate you. If someone gets a lot of love and respect in the neighborhood, it's a rare thing.

When I said I wasn't mainstream, lames scream "What does he mean? Who does he think he is? His bank be hid, he hardly out He still as hard as he was when he started out"
When I stated that I'm not a mainstream rapper, some people criticized me for it. They question my identity and may be envious of my financial success, as I am still respected and successful like when I first started.

We count 'em out, we count 'em in Amongst the real, never my crown in doubt So around my house with my wiz, lessons I got from my friends Do they love me for me or love me for them?
In the rap industry, many artists come and go. However, I am always included among the most respected and successful. I spend time with my wife, and I wonder if people love me for who I am or just because of my status.

I move quickly and efficiently like a fast runner. My music is vivid and clear like a 3D movie without needing visual aids. Some people already hate me before hearing my music, but my persistence intimidates them. I realize how people fear me because of my success and reputation. Sometimes, I'm not sure if I'm alive or in a dangerous situation, as if I were in a hot dryer. People should stop pretending to be something they are not.

Why in a whole year, you still in the same spot trying To change, but you not risin'? When will somebody real tell him he not Nas-in' Cars, you just started drivin' I've been ridin', been made it You and your pretend stages I did this since windbreakers (Windbreakers)
Some people work hard to change their situation but never seem to make progress. They try to follow in my footsteps but are not as successful. I have had a long and successful career, so people who are new to the business should pay their dues. I've been a rapper since the days of windbreakers and have been successful while others just pretend to be like me.
