The Format Part 2
Nas Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Attention college kids across the world
Yall need to stop being so loud at night
Some people are trying to sleep and get some rest
Especially the person who made this fire track)
Like this beat cuz I made it
I'm on top of things I'm the greatest (yeah, yeah)
College kids, I hate them so much
What is wrong with them they drive me nuts
Why are they so loud and I'm so quiet
If they apologized, I wouldn't buy it (yeah, yeah)
Babies with their mommas and they're just crying (wah, wah)
Birds up in the sky and they're just flying (tweet, tweet)
Screaming and moaning every night (Oh yeah)
If this happens again I'm gonna fight
From Purdue to I.U (Indiana)
To Saint Michaels and U.V.M (and now it's Vermont)
All the police I will send
College kids, I've always hated them (That's right)
Call me a "Karen" if you want (White women)
But you guys crossed the line
Cuz ya'll thought
I wouldn't catch y'all lacking In four K
I'ma be straight with you all no foreplay
All that alcohol and taking drugs
I know you're young but that's too much
Such a waste of time for me
Ten P.M man I should sleep
I've always wanted to be grown but now
I want my youth back
My attack
Y'all still screaming while I make this song
Where the cops at
Wait can't call them, I am black
Let's go back
Way to dark
A.U like a Future Arc, yeah
I got way too hype making that last verse
That was way too dark
Like me
At this point this songs a meme
But there's some truth to what I've seen
And heard with my own ears
Some of those people might think
I'm one of their peers
But no I am fifteenth
Living on a college campus
So many dang screams
So mean
So many fiends
Y'all smoking weed
Don't pass the blunt to me
I'm not eighteen y'all kids is crazy

(Yeah they're crazy
Yeah they're crazy)

Overall Meaning

In Nas's song The Format Part 2, the artist expresses his frustration with college kids who disturb his peace by being loud and rowdy at night. He uses sarcastic humor to highlight the absurdity of their behavior, mocking their excessive noise levels and disregard for others trying to sleep. Nas also criticizes their party lifestyle, calling it a waste of time, and advises them to be more responsible with their alcohol and drug use.

The song also touches on deeper themes of nostalgia and aging, as Nas reminisces about his own youth and how he wishes he could relive those days. He confronts the reality that he is no longer young and carefree, and has to deal with adult responsibilities and the annoyances of others. Overall, The Format Part 2 is a witty commentary on the clash between youth culture and adulthood, and the struggles that arise when these worlds collide.
