My Own Movie
Natalie Imbruglia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Dreaming again of the summer time
When the world was mine
Drifting again, everything you do
Makes me fall for you

Trying to keep it together
Without you around
You got me up here
And now, I can't seem to get down

Here it comes, taking over me
Close my eyes and I'm finally
Wandering with you

Here it comes, my own movie
In your arms where I wanna be
Wandering with you

Turn back the clock, what I didn't say
On the beach that day
I was afraid that you didn't feel
Everything I feel

Trying to keep it together
Without you around
You got me up here
And now I can't seem to get down

Here it comes, taking over me
Close my eyes and I'm finally
Wandering with you

Here it comes, my own movie
In your arms where I wanna be
Wandering with you

Didn't wanna be hurt so easily
You seem to soften the edges
Didn't wanna care if someone was there
How did you manage to open me up?

Again here it comes taking over me
Close my eyes and I'm finally
Wandering with you

Here it comes my own movie
In your arms where I wanna be
Wandering with you

Here it comes, taking over me
Close my eyes and I'm finally
Wandering with you

Here it comes, my own movie

In your arms where I wanna be
Wandering with you

Overall Meaning

The song "My Own Movie" by Natalie Imbruglia is about the experience of falling in love again with someone from the past. Imbruglia reminisces about the summer time when the world was hers and everything she did made her fall for her love interest. Now without her love interest, Imbruglia is left to try and keep it together but finds herself in a state where she can't come down.

In the second verse, Imbruglia reflects on a time when she was afraid that her love interest didn't feel everything she felt. She wants to turn back the clock and express what she didn't say on that beach day. The chorus then introduces the concept of the singer's life being like a movie when she's with this individual. The bridge questions how this individual managed to open her up when she didn't want to care if anyone was there, and then the chorus repeats again, intensifying the imagery of the individual taking over her and her yearning to wander in their arms.

The song blends soft rock with pop, emphasizing Imbruglia's voice and the guitar sound she co-produced with Ben Hillier. "My Own Movie" was released in 2005 and was featured on Imbruglia's third album "Counting Down the Days."
