I told you goodbye
And I swore it was the last time
But then the phone rang twice
I was running right back so fast
And now I'm here at your door
Asking for more, like a favorite pastime
But it never seems to last
Didn't I say just yesterday'
Never again, again
I keep saying that it's over
But I'm still here
I could have sworn I said
Never again, again
I keep falling into you
You won't disappear
I keep telling myself
Never again, again
Here we go again
Again, again, again
Again, again, again
Again, again, again
I just wanna let go
It's outta control
A no win situation
Why do I do what I do'
I can't help myself
You say everything's changed
But it's still the same
Just a lot of aggravation
Can't quit, I take a hit
Now I don't feel so well
Didn't I say just yesterday'
Never again, again
I keep saying that it's over
But I'm still here
I could have sworn I said
Never again, again
I keep falling into you
You won't disappear
I keep telling myself
Never again, again
With each other
Just another day in paradise
Yeah, right
I'm fallin' again [']
I'm fallin' again
[Incomprehensible]
Never again, again
I keep saying that it's over
But I'm still here
Never again, again
I keep falling into you
You won't disappear
I keep telling myself
Never again, again
Never again, again
I keep saying that it's over
But I'm still here
I could have sworn I said
Never again, again
I keep falling into you
You won't disappear
I keep telling myself
Never again, again
Again, again, again
Again, again, again
Again, again, again
The lyrics of Nate Sallie's song "Never Again... Again" touch on the recurring cycle that can happen in dysfunctional relationships. The song starts out with the singer declaring that they've said goodbye to their lover fifty times, and that each time they promised it was the last. However, despite their best intentions, they always end up going back to their lover, even when they know it's not good for them. This is highlighted by the line, "And now I'm here at your door, asking for more, like a favorite pastime."
The chorus repeats the theme of the song, with the singer reaffirming that they keep saying "never again," but they keep falling back into the same patterns with their lover. The lyrics suggest a sense of frustration and powerlessness, as the singer acknowledges that they "can't help [themselves]" and that they are in a "no win situation." The bridge of the song offers a glimmer of hope as the singer wonders, "You say everything's changed, but it's still the same," suggesting that perhaps things could be different if their lover could truly change. However, the song ends on a somewhat pessimistic note, with the chorus repeating the cycle of falling back into the same old patterns.
Overall, the lyrics of "Never Again... Again" offer a relatable portrayal of the struggle to break free from unhealthy relationships.
