same, it's cause loving is just so risky. Especially after experiencing heartbreak you learn that everything, especially the best and most special things, are temporary. You get too attached and then life takes the person away from you, leaving you broken for years afterwards in a pain so deep you feel like you'd be better off dead. Yet being alone isn't much better, too much loneliness and you'll go insane, (I had this happen to me) you get new people in your head who make it their life's mission to hurt you constantly. In the end, everything hurts. Better you enjoy people's company without loving them. You won't get the deep relationships, but you'll get some happiness with the least amount of pain.

Black ZeN96 I think it’s because a lot of people also have depression. You want to love someone, but you also have problems with yourself. You are fighting against another personality. That’s my problem. I found my love one year ago and we were in a releation ship but then I broke up without reason. My brain just things I can’t make him happy or can’t love him, but my heart gets crazy around him. We are still friends which proves that we are made for each other. He is my only soulmate and no one else.

The saddest part is that in today's society everyone is trying their hardest to be loved (to be "perfect"), up to the point that they'll lie and deceive to gain that recognition. But this is indeed no way of living, and then people wonder why they become exhausted and lonely. One will never find honest appreciation in another if they do not dare to open up and show their true self.
Sure it is scary, and the hard truth is that most people will back away when they see a person with flaws, but at least this makes way to connect with people who actually do care and want to see the real you behind the mask. Life is not a race, it's not a competition. It's a journey filled with experiences to learn from - like an adventure. Any adventure would be dreadful if you keep blocking each other's roads instead of venturing on it together. Still, I suppose without the dreadful parts, we would not be able to appreciate the wonderful parts.
In any case, this song touched me in various ways, especially because I can connect it with many people I know in my life as well ♥

Nathan, when I first heard this song I was on my way to school, it was dark and rainy. It reminded me of the day I lost the only person I ever could love as much as I did. She was so beautiful and so kind and she helped me in my time of need but I was to late to help her, I failed her, I failed myself and now I can't even look at myself in the mirror. I have felt this way since I came home from Vietnam where I served 1967 to 1970. The war has been with me every hour of everyday since then. I stay away from people because they don't understand. The few friends that I do have are men like me who where over there as well. When I found this song completely by accident it spoke to me in ways that I haven't felt in 50 yrs. After wearing a mask and amour for so long and have felt broken inside for so long that I forgot that you can feel any other way. You have a true talent keep writing and singing.

This is a beautiful piece Nathan. As an artist myself, I can totally understand how difficult and scary it can be to expose our true selves to the world. But I've learned that there is something amazing that happens when we are honest with ourselves and others about all our shortcomings and failures..... God takes all the ashes and broken pieces of our lives and turns them into a beautiful vessel into which He pours His Holy Spirit. I think we will all be amazed one day in the new Heavens and New Earth when we see how many others' lives were touched and changed just by our being authentic and telling our stories. "I'm afraid to love but afraid to be alone" this hit me like a truck because at some point you realize that both situations hurt.

I'm not sure what hurts more, being heartbroken when you realize you can't marry your crush (who likes you back) or being alone for so long that you end up with 8 different voices in your head that constantly torment you. They hurt terribly, especially when the people in your head take the form of your loved one, you think that they're actually with you and talk to them then the illusion vanishes, leaving you even more broken when you realize they weren't actually there and you were just talking to yourself.

This song really hit home, even though our stories are super different. You can hear in your vocals that this song means a lot to you, and that translates. The lines 'If I looked you in the eye, and showed the broken things inside, would you run away?' exactly describe how I've felt for a long time. I'm talking to a professional lately about it, and this is literally something that I've talked about fearing. So thank you for putting into words what I, and clearly many others here, have felt.
