Fred Neil heard Dobson's song and re-arranged it to suit his own style. Tim Rose heard Neil's version and then recorded his own in 1966, adding himself as co-writer. Through a loophole in US copyright law, Rose was able to claim royalties. Dobson has consistently questioned Rose's right to a co-writing credit.
Nazareth recorded their version back in 1971, and it was featured on their debut album 'Nazareth' the same year.
Morning Dew
Nazareth Lyrics

Walk me out in the morning dew today
I can't walk you out in no morning dew
I can't walk you out in no morning dew at all
Thought I heard a young girl cryin' mama
Thought I heard a young girl cry today
You never heard no young girl cryin'
Thought I heard a young boy cryin' mama
Thought I heard a young boy cry today
You didn't hear no young boy cryin' buddy
You never heard no young boy cry at all
Thought I heard a young man cryin' mama
Thought I heard a young man cry today
You never heard no young man cryin'
You never heard no young man cry at all
Now there is no more morning dew
Now there is no more morning dew
What they've been sayin' all these years is true
Now there is no more morning dew.
The lyrics to Nazareth's Morning Dew suggest a mournful tone that contrasts with the simplicity of the language used to communicate the message. The entire song seems to speak to the emotions of someone who has dealt with loss and the pain that results from it, while at the same time capturing the image of dew in the early morning, which is typically associated with life and vibrancy. The opening lyric, "Walk me out in the morning dew, walk me out in the morning dew today," speaks to the feeling of immersing oneself in the natural elements after experiencing loss. The singer wants to be taken out into the morning dew, which may signify a yearning to feel alive and connected to nature amidst the emotional turmoil they face.
Throughout the song, the singer mentions hearing the cries of a young girl, a young boy, and a young man, suggesting the universality of experiencing loss and pain. Each of these cries is connected to "mama," which suggests that the singer is not only dealing with loss but is also reminded of the intergenerational impact of loss. The final lyric, "Now there is no more morning dew. What they've been sayin' all these years is true. Now there is no more morning dew," seems to suggest that the singer has accepted the reality of their loss and has come to the realization that life will never be the same again. The morning dew, which represents life and vitality, is no more, and the singer acknowledges this truth.

I just checked and I have 18 versions of this song. Four are by Nazareth. The fifth best is Jeff Beck's. Jeff's guitar is brilliant, the Jeff Beck Band is brilliant, but Nazareth was better.
They were all on top form, but Manny really must have practiced this in his sleep. Flawless and magical.

A lot of great rock music was made in the late 60's/early 70's. In 1971 we had this album, Sticky Fingers by the Stones (Exile came out a year later), Who's Next; Deep Purple Mk 2 version released some great albums.

You desperately need to check out the stoner rock, heavy psych genres of today- it’ll lift your spirits- the heavy rock of the 70s still lives on, and it’s currently the most exciting (though underground) scene in heavy music.
