Nazareth Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
How in the world do I make it stop
'Round and 'round and faster still
I'm gonna live till I had my fill
Call the crowd and gather 'round
You're gonna find me in the lost and found
Bright lights, that's my style
Got no time for sittin' 'round
Tops are livin' proof to
Ain't gonna wait another day
Pack my bags and get on my way
Gone and turn around
You're gonna find me in the lost and found
The lyrics of Nazareth's song Spinning Top reflect the feeling of being trapped, anxious, and desperately trying to find a way out. The spinning top is used as a metaphor for the singer's head, which feels like it's constantly moving and can't be stopped, and he's looking for a way to take control of his life. Despite feeling lost and overwhelmed, the singer is determined to live life to the fullest, even if it means stepping out of his comfort zone and taking risks.
The singer calls out to the crowd to gather around him, as if he's searching for a way out and looking for support from others. He's drawn to the bright lights and the excitement of life, but he's aware that this lifestyle can be fleeting, and he doesn't want to miss out on any opportunities. The top is used again as a symbol of how life can be unpredictable, much like the way a spinning top can change direction in an instant.
The final verse is a call to action, with the singer stating that he's done waiting and it's time to get moving. He's ready to pack his bags and leave his old life behind, even if it means leaving behind some part of himself. The repetition of the line, "You're gonna find me in the lost and found," reinforces the idea that the singer is searching for something, whether it be himself or his place in the world.

Spinning Top was originally the B-side of Morning Dew, released July 1972, and produced by Roy Thomas Baker. It's not from the Razamanaz sessions but from Exercises. Morning Dew, of course, is from the 1st album, produced by David Hitchcock.
It was second time around when it was placed on the B-side of Bad Bad Boy with 2 songs which also included Hard Living.
