In 1983 Young wanted to release an album called Old Ways with Geffen Records. They refused to release it, telling Young it was "too country". He had also recorded some rockabilly songs, which Geffen did like, so they asked him to explore that genre a bit more. Hence the album Everybody's Rockin' by Neil Young & The Shocking Pinks.
The International Harvesters are basically The Shocking Pinks, but with the addition of Rufus Thibodeaux and a few other country-style artists. The International Harvesters tour was actually more succesful than Young had maybe hoped for, but it didn't stop Geffen Records from suing Young for making "uncommercial and uncharacteristic albums".
In 1985 he released a reworked version of Old Ways with the International Harvesters. The album again leaned a lot towards country and even though it wasn't a bad album, it did manage to alienate Young from his audience even further at the time.
The (original) International Harvesters consisted of Neil Young (piano, guitar, harmonica, banjo, mandolin), Anthony Crawford (guitars, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, vocals), Spooner Oldham (piano, organ), Ben Keith (pedal steel), Karl 'Junkyard' Himmel (drums), Tim Drummond (bass) and Rufus Thibodeaux (fiddle).

Every day got plenty of time
Every night there's a moon so fine
There for you, my Amber Jean
Still some coins that might be tossed
Still some lines that oughta be crossed
Still some love that hasn't been lost
Amber Jean, oh, Amber Jean
Prettiest eyes I've ever seen
Every morning got sun to shine
Every day got plenty of time
Every night there's a moon so fine
There for you, my Amber Jean
In Neil Young's song "Amber Jean," the singer shows his appreciation and love for his daughter, Amber Jean. He acknowledges that every day has something positive, whether it's the sun shining, plenty of time or the moon at night. He promises to always be there for her, no matter what, with lines like "There for you, my Amber Jean."
The song also alludes to the fact that there is still more to come in Amber's life. There are still "coins that might be tossed" and "lines that oughta be crossed," indicating that there is still uncertainty and adventure ahead. However, despite this, there is love that hasn't been lost and a promise to always be there for her.
Overall, "Amber Jean" is a touching tribute to a father's love for his daughter and a reminder that there is beauty and light even in times of uncertainty.
