Their earliest albums were hard rock that drew heavily from the space-rock and Pink Floyd styles of the same period. The 70’s gave them the occasion to issue some masterpieces, like for example "A Tab in the Ocean (1972) "Remember the Future" (1973) and "Recycled" (1975). Each is a conceptual album that is a nice blend of melodic guitar and keyboards with a vocal story. "Journey To The Centre Of The Eye" is a mindblowing epic with lots of echoplex guitar and dual Mellotrons which is quite in tune with the Krautrock stuff going on around them, yet is definitely British. "Magic is a Child" had shorter songs and were less less satisfying.
Nektar's entire back catalogue has been re-vamped and remastered and is about to be re-issued in the USA, supported by a tour. A new Studio CD "Book of Days" is targeted for 20th March 2007 release on EMI - Caroline.
The band has recently been joined for their upcoming tour by the bass player Peter Pichl (Running Wild and other bands).

Ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah
When the king of twilight shows me
I will take ten steps to see
For a chance to be free
For a chance to be free
Ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah
When the king of twilight calls you
Take a step and you will see
We all need a quick solution
For a chance to be free
Just a chance to be
Free
Free
Free
Free
Free
Ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah
When the king of twilight shows me
I will take ten steps to see
Forty leaves I pay to freedom
For a chance to be free
For a chance to be - free
The lyrics to Nektar's song King Of Twilight suggest a desire for freedom, with the repeated line "For a chance to be free" serving as a central theme. The phrase "king of twilight" can be interpreted as representing the unknown or mysterious force that hinders the singer's ability to attain this freedom. The lyrics suggest that the singer is willing to go to great lengths and pay a significant price (represented by the "forty leaves") for even a chance at this freedom.
The lyrics encourage the listener to take action when the "king of twilight" calls, suggesting that waiting for an opportunity to come along may not be enough. The need for a "quick solution" further emphasizes this urgency. The repetition of the "ah-ah-ah" throughout the song adds a sense of haunting or foreboding to the lyrics, possibly adding to the sense of mystery surrounding the king of twilight.
Overall, the lyrics to King Of Twilight suggest a deep desire for freedom and a willingness to take risks to obtain it, even in the face of unknown or mysterious obstacles.
