Summary of the video

1. Doing something is better than nothing even though it is just 1 minute .

2. Being ambitious require more motivation . If the motivation is not sufficient you will slack off from your habit due to " resistance " and fear of failure underachieving

3. It is better to start small and embrace small gain . Build up the habit daily until you reach " auto pilot " i.e. doing something naturally , intuitively without thinking even if you tired/ don't have time etc cetera .

4. Aim to achieve " autopilot " habit , for it is the golden moment that is being the most productive you can get effortlessly .

I expected this talk to last 1 minute, but I got through all 11 minutes. That in itself is a miracle.

There is a phrase in cognitive psychology/therapy that is similar. "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly" it's homework towards anti-perfectionism/anti all or nothing thinking. Also my personal new phrase, One step at a time, one thing at a time small steps count.

Honestly, this is exactly the thinking that I had going into this new year and the goals I set for myself. Not necessarily one minute, but ridiculously easy things to do at the start of the year and then build up on them so that by the end of the year I might be where I actually want.

Indeed, starting small is better than not starting at all. Good luck with your goals!

Starting is always the hardest part.
I always set two goals - a 'stretch' goal and a 'better than nothing' goal. This strategy allows me to be ambitious with my goal while having something to fall back on if I'm really not feeling it.

It is good to have two goals! It allows you to be productive with minimal efforts. As Carter said: “These days, usually I actually do run for 15 or 20 minutes, but on the days that I'm totally lacking in motivation or I just feel like I have no time, I still do that one minute. And this minimal effort always turns out to be way better than if I did nothing.”
I recently bought the book “Atomic Habits” by James Clear. This gives you a better view on how to break bad habits and create new ones. I really recommend this book to anyone who sets a new goal!
