Tahita & Andy formed the band in 2005. Mutual friends introduced vocalist Tahita Bulmer and producer Andy Spence, who shared a love of punk rock and dance music. The founding pair began writing together, originally only for Bulmer to perform. Spence later assumed a larger role when they decided to form a proper band, and the duo recruited Lou Hayter (keyboards), Igor Volk (bass) and Sarah Jones (drums). The band released two limited edition 7" singles ("The Get Go" and "Ice Cream") on indie label Tirk Recordings before being discovered by more established Australian label Modular Recordings, and signing a worldwide deal.
The band's name came from lead singer Bulmer's desire to be a part of a club or team at school. Her original idea for the band name was the more concise "Pony Club", which she describes as "quirky and kinky and fun". A pre-existing Irish band had already claimed the name, and the prefix "New Young" was added to reflect that the band are "a newer, younger and kinkier Pony Club"
In 2013 Tahita & Andy continued on without Lou & Sarah as NYPC.

I want what you’re giving out
No romantic pedigree
Suck me in and spit me out
Soccer punch me with your love
I’m your mirror, I can be,
Read me like an open book
yeah yeah yeah yeah
Consume the night
jerk me, jerk me up
Consume the night
jerk me, jerk me
I want what you’ve got for me,
I want what you’re giving out,
No romantic pedigree
(Consume me now)
Suck me in and spit me out
Paralyse me with your song
I can randomly repeat
This I learns been done too long
Mark your sordid X on me
yeah yeah yeah yeah
Consume the night
jerk me, jerk me up
Consume the night
jerk me, jerk me
Soccer punch me with your love
I’m your mirror, I can be,
Read me like an open book
Tear my pages, set me free
yeah yeah yeah yeah
Consume the night
jerk me, jerk me up
Consume the night
jerk me, jerk me
The lyrics of New Young Pony Club's song "Jerk Me" is about someone who craves for a certain kind of attention from another person but doesn't care about the romantic aspect of the relationship. The first verse expresses that the singer wants whatever the other person has to offer, and doesn't have any romantic expectations. They are willing to be consumed and then thrown away. The phrase "suck me in and spit me out" implies that they want to be a part of the other person's world but don't want any emotional attachments.
The second verse talks about how the other person's song has the power to "paralyze" the singer. While the singer mimics the other person without realizing it, they also complain that they have been in similar situations before, but every time the result is the same. The phrase "Mark your sordid X on me" implies that the singer is happy to be used by the other person.
The chorus is repetitive; the singer wants the other person to "jerk me, jerk me up." The phrase "consume the night" emphasizes the fact that the singer wants to be used and discarded without any commitment.
In conclusion, the lyrics of "Jerk Me" describe an unhealthy relationship where one person is constantly seeking attention and approval from someone who is unwilling to provide it. The song expresses the urge of the singer to be used and discarded, without any expectations of a long-term commitment.
