E1- Place To Be
Nick Drake Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I was younger, younger than before
I never saw the truth hanging from the door
And now I'm older see it face to face
And now I'm older gotta get up clean the place.

And I was green, greener than the hill
Where the flowers grew and the sun shone still
Now I'm darker than the deepest sea
Just hand me down, give me a place to be.

And I was strong, strong in the sun
I thought I'd see when day is done

Now I'm weaker than the palest blue
Oh, so weak in this need for you.

Overall Meaning

In Nick Drake's "Place To," the lyrics explore themes of time and change as well as self-awareness and self-improvement. The opening lines recall the singer's youth, when they were naive and blind to the truth that was "hanging from the door." However, with age comes experience and a new realization of the need to clean up their life: "And now I'm older gotta get up clean the place."

Drake also uses natural imagery to reinforce the idea of change and growth over time: "And I was green, greener than the hill / Where the flowers grew and the sun shone still / Now I'm darker than the deepest sea / Just hand me down, give me a place to be." Here, the singer reflects on how they used to be full of life and promise, but the passing of time has taken its toll, leaving them feeling lost and in need of guidance.

Oh, so weak in this need for you.
My life seems empty and lonely without your love, and I have never been so weak as I am now. I need you now more than ever.

I never thought that it'd be so simple but

I found a way, I found a way

I always thought that it'd be too crazy but

I found a way, I found a way

And if you open up your mind

See what's inside

Chorus:

It's gonna take some time, to realize

But if you look inside, I'm sure you'll find

Over your shoulder you know that I told you

I'll always be pickin' you up when your down

So just turn around

Drake:

Now that I know that anything's possible

I found a way, I found a way

No one can break what is so unbreakable

I found a way, I found a way

And if you open up your mind

See what's inside

Chorus:

It's gonna take some time, to realize

But if you look inside, I'm sure you'll find

Over your shoulder you know that I told you

I'll always be pickin' you up when your down

So just turn around

Drake:

No one cares, what you give

You know you gotta live like you wanna live

When it's time, to be free

You know you gotta be what you wanna be

And if you open up your mind

See what's inside

Chorus:

It's gonna take some time, to realize

But if you look inside, I'm sure you'll find

Over your shoulder you know that I told you

I'll always be pickin' you up when your down

So just turn around

Ooh Ooh

@Caseed Sam & Cat sucked.

Caseed

@Side&Eyed I mean it wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t the best ether

Side&Eyed

@Caseed It was pretty bad, they just took two of the mid tier supporting characters from two different shows and thought that would be enough to make an interesting series but in reality it sucked. Sam was already a overall poorly written character in ICarly and Cat was pretty good in victorious but that was mostly due to the limited screen time and the chemistry she had with characters in that series.
