Recollections
Nightingale Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The memories of you will never fade away
You will always be a lonely stranger to my soul
Where are you now I guess that I will never know
Maybe you have died again to have a body of your own

One day you will be reborn, no recollection at all
No memories of who you were and who you used to be
One day I have to explain, relive the heartache and pain
Cause you have the right to know it used to be

I now that your soul will be alive again
You ll be around us like the wind and the rain and the stars
One day your soul will be again

I really hope you won t remember
Who you were and what you could do

Overall Meaning

In Nightingale's song Recollections, the lyrics speak about the memories of someone who has passed away and the singer's struggle to let go of their memory. The first verse speaks about how even though the person has died, their memories will never fade away and that they will always remain a lonely stranger to the singer's soul. The second line speaks to the mystery of where the person is now, and how they may have chosen to be reborn with no memories of their previous life.

The chorus then speaks to the inevitability of having to explain the heartache and pain of losing someone to those who are reborn and carry on living. The singer knows that the memories will come back to haunt them again and again, but they hope that the person's new life will be filled with happiness and they will not remember the pain and suffering of their previous life.

The final verse speaks to the hope that the person's soul will be alive again and that they will be around us like the wind and rain and stars. The hope is that the person will not remember the pain and suffering they went through in their previous life, but instead, they will have a fresh start with new memories and experiences.

Overall, Recollections is a song about coming to terms with loss and acceptance of the natural cycle of life and death. It speaks to the inevitability of having to relive the pain of losing someone but also the hope that they will have a new life filled with happiness and new memories.

Soon we'll be re-birthed for spring surly follows the coldest winter. Let's be content to grow deeply in thoughts and prepare hearts for renewal. Pain and loss came like a heavy blanket and we are to rest under that healing a little while longer. Loss hurts deeply and it deserves much respect and Nightingale knows about loss! I had the very best and most prestigious professor in grief and loss. Luna knows the time and Angels whisper in the dark woods that we will emerge from our cocoons better!

Great lyrics, although I feel that this song is lacking musically ... both instrumental and his voice, it just feels flat ..... compared to say, Better Safe Then Sorry (which was made like a year later)
