It's The Talk Of The Town
Nils Frahm Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We were more than lovers,
We were more than sweethearts,
It's so hard to understand.

Don't know why it happened,
Don't know how it started,
Why should we be strangers,
After all we planned.

I can't show my face,
Can't go anyplace,
People stop an' stare,
It's so hard to bear,
Everybody knows you left me,
It's the talk of the town

Every time we meet,
My heart skips a beat,
We don't stop to speak,
'Though it's just a week,
Everybody knows you left me,
It's the talk of the town

We send out invitations,
To friends and relations,
Announcing our weddin' day
Friends and our relations,
Gave congratulations,
How can you face them?
What can you say?

Let's make up sweetheart,
We can't stay apart,
Don't let foolish pride,
Keep you from my side,
How can love like ours be ended?
It's the talk of the town
How can you face them?

What can you say?

Let's make up sweetheart,
We can't stay apart,
Don't let foolish pride,
Keep you from my side,
How can love like ours be ended?
It's the talk of the town, hm

It's the talk of the town.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Nils Frahm's "It's The Talk Of The Town" unravel the story of a broken love affair. The opening verse highlights the intensity of the relationship as the two individuals involved were not just lovers but sweethearts. The chorus of the song declares that everyone knows, reinforcing the heartbreak and humiliation of the person left behind. The singer, though yearning for reconciliation, finds it impossible to face the conversations and attention surrounding the failed relationship. The second verse establishes the severity of the heartbreak as they had sent out invitations announcing their wedding, and their loved ones had given their congratulations.

The lyrics, though simple, paint a vivid picture of a love story gone awry. The hurt, shame, and regret are all palpable as the singer longs to make amends and heal their relationship. However, pride prevents them from taking the first step. The song's emotional complexity and the singer's evocative and soulful rendition of the lyrics make it a beautiful and poignant song.

@piggyman-st8iu

@@LaurenLaverne This seems to be more of a transition track on one of his radio programmes, seeing as how it starts and ends really quickly, kind of like “You’re Dancing on my Heart”. Also, I have checked his “It’s the Talk of the Town” recordings and they’re nowhere near similar to this track.

@@LaurenLaverne Also forgive me for responding to a 5 year old comment.
