do you remember the time
do you remembre my face
and my broken name
i’ll try to save it
ain’t got to save my soul
i lost you homie
cause you only know
the man is down
deep down in my heart
i feel the freeze of the death
i know he’s dead
i know he’s dead
for the last time i cry
the death of my star
i know he’ll drive me all along
and i can’t go on
i can’t go on
do you remember his name
do you remember the time
do you remembre his face
and his broken name
i’ll try to save it
ain’t got to save my soul
i lost you homie
burned the rest of my bones
cause you only know
the man is down
deep down in my heart
i feel the freeze of the death
i know he’s dead
i know he’s dead
for the last time i cry
the death of my star
i know he’ll drive me all along
do you remember my name
do you remember the time
do you remember his face
and his broken name
i tried to save it andgot to save my soul
i lost you homie burn the rest of my bones
cause you only know
In the lyrics of "Man Down" by No Money Kids, the singer reflects on the memory of a lost friend or loved one. The repetitive questioning of whether the listener remembers various aspects of the individual's identity (name, time, face, broken name) conveys a sense of longing and nostalgia for the past. The singer expresses a desperate attempt to hold on to the memory of this person, symbolized by trying to "save it" and mentioning the loss of their soul.
The mention of burning bones and feeling the freeze of death conveys a deep sense of loss and the finality of death. The imagery of the "man down" suggests a person who is defeated or in a state of despair. The repeated acknowledgment of the person being dead reinforces the sense of grief that the singer is experiencing. The lyrics convey a profound emotional pain and a struggle to come to terms with the permanence of the loss.
The singer mourns the death of their "star," highlighting the significance and impact that this person had on their life. The mention of being unable to move on and feeling driven by the memory of the deceased emphasizes the lasting impact of the loss. The emotional turmoil is palpable as the singer expresses a sense of being unable to continue without the presence of this person in their life.
As the lyrics circle back to questioning the listener about remembering the individual's name, time, face, and broken name, the cycle of grief and longing is reiterated. The desire to save the memory of the lost person and the acknowledgment of the burning bones signify a struggle to come to terms with the reality of the loss. The repetition of the phrase "cause you only know" suggests a sense of isolation and the idea that only the singer truly understands the depth of their grief and the significance of the person they have lost.
