Nearness of You
Norah Jones Lyrics

That thrills and delights me
Oh no, it's just the nearness of you
It isn't your sweet conversation
That brings this sensation
Oh no, it's just the nearness of you
And I feel you so close to me
All my wildest dreams came true
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you will only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness of you
The lyrics of Norah Jones's song, "Nearness of You," express the intense emotions that come with physical intimacy in a relationship. The artist acknowledges that it's not the external stimuli that excite her or delight her, but the proximity of her partner. The moon, sweet conversation, and soft lights are all secondary to the nearness of her lover. This closeness is highlighted further in the first line of the chorus, "When you're in my arms," emphasizing the power of the physical connection.
The second verse validates the first, as the artist describes the sensation she feels when her lover is close to her. She sings about the fulfillment of her dreams when she holds them close, emphasizing the power of physical touch in creating an emotional bond. The third verse delves even deeper, describing the desire to hold her partner even closer and feel their presence in the night.
"Nearness of You" is a beautiful love song that highlights the importance of physical intimacy in a relationship. It speaks to the power of touch and the way it can bring people closer together.
