April In Paris
Norman Luboff Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

April in Paris
Chestnuts in blossoms
Holiday tables
Under the trees
April in Paris
This is a feeling
No one can ever
Reprise

I never knew the charm of spring
Never met it face to face
I never new my heart could sing
Never missed a warm embrace

'Till April in Paris
Whom can I run to
What have you done to
My heart

I never knew the charm of spring
Never met it face to face
I never new my heart could sing
Never missed a warm embrace

'Till April in Paris
Whom can I run to

What have you done to
My heart

Exquisite singing from Doris! I love how she doesn't take a breath between "reprise" and "I" --- that technique has great impact: Tommy Dorsey used it all the time, creating the effect that he never took a breath, and both Jo Stafford and Frank Sinatra, his star vocalists, employed it, too -- possibly under his influence. ... I only wish Columbia had omitted the then ubiquitous Norman Luboff Choir and just let Doris take this one all on her own.
