Soul To Squeeze
Ofln - Red Hot Chili Peppers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've got a bad disease
But from my brain is where I bleed
Insanity it seems
Has got me by my soul to squeeze

Well all the love from thee
With all the dying trees I scream
The angels in my dreams (yeah)
Have turned to demons of greed that's mean

Where I go I just don't know
I got to got to gotta take it slow
When I find my piece of mind
I'm gonna give you some of my good time

Today love smiled on me
It took away my pain say please
All that you had to free
You gotta let it be oh yeah

Where I go I just don't know
I got to got to gotta take it slow
When I find my piece of mind
I'm gonna give you some of my good time

Oh, so polite indeed
Well I got everything I need
Oh make my days a breeze
And take away my self destruction

It's bitter baby
And it's very sweet
I'm on a rollercoaster
but I'm on my feet
Take me to the river
Let me on your shore
I'll be coming back baby
I'll be coming back for more

Doo doo doo doo dingle zing a dong bone
Ba-di ba-da ba-zumba crunga cong gone bad

I could not forget
But I will not endeavor
Simple pleasures aren't as special
But I won't regret it never

Where I go I just don't know
I got to got to gotta take it slow
When I find my piece of mind
I'm gonna give you some of my good time

Where I go I just don't know
I might end up somewhere in Mexico

When I find my piece of mind
I'm gonna keep you for the end of time

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Soul To Squeeze" by Red Hot Chili Peppers delve deep into themes of struggle, emotional turmoil, and the search for inner peace. The songwriter opens up about a personal battle, describing it as a "bad disease" that causes them to bleed from their brain, metaphorically representing intense emotional pain. This affliction, which seems to drive them to the brink of insanity, grips their soul tightly, leaving them feeling trapped and overwhelmed.

Despite the overwhelming struggle, there is a yearning for love and connection reflected in the lines, "Well all the love from thee / With all the dying trees I scream." The juxtaposition of love and loss creates a sense of longing and desperation, as the singer navigates the shifting landscape of their dreams and desires. The transformation of angels into demons symbolizes a loss of innocence and a confrontation with the darker aspects of human nature and desire.

The recurring refrain of uncertainty and the need to take things slow highlights the singer's journey towards self-discovery and healing. The quest for peace of mind becomes a central focus, with the promise of sharing joy and good times with others once that inner balance is achieved. The lyrics reflect a sense of hope amidst the chaos, with love and positive experiences serving as guiding lights in the darkness.

The rollercoaster of emotions continues throughout the song, with moments of bitterness and sweetness intermingling. Despite the challenges faced, the singer finds a sense of completeness and adequacy within themselves, acknowledging that simple pleasures hold value even in the face of ongoing struggles. The references to rivers and shores evoke a sense of renewal and transformation, hinting at the possibility of returning to a place of peace and stability after weathering the storm. The final verses suggest a desire for continuity and connection, promising to come back for more even as the journey continues into unknown territories like Mexico, all while emphasizing the enduring nature of the bond they share with a loved one.

That is John John Hayden sitting on the top of the old truck with Chad Smith, he was a very short guy. He passed away years ago from health problems because of his small size. We both went to the same elementary school  circa 1972, in Glendale, CA. and we both ended up working for the Red Hot Chili Peppers in the late 80's-early 90's. He's loved and missed by all. John John Hayden God Speed to you.
