Lullaby
Omar Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Do you remember that old lullaby?
That we used to sing when we felt alive
Do you remember that old lullaby?
That we used to sing when we felt alive
Do you remember that old lullaby?
That we used to sing when we felt alive
When I told you that I was sad
Well that feeling multiplied
And now I'm mummified
When I told you that I was sad

Well that feeling multiplied
And now I'm mummified

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Omar's song "Lullaby" evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing for a past time when the singer and someone else used to experience a feeling of vitality and joy. The repetition of the question "Do you remember that old lullaby?" suggests that this lullaby held significant memories for both individuals, serving as a symbol of their shared happiness. It was a song they used to sing together, perhaps representing a moment of connection and emotional resonance.

The mention of feeling sad adds another layer to the song's meaning. When the singer confided in the other person about their sadness, it seems that this feeling intensified and became overwhelming. The line "Well that feeling multiplied" suggests that opening up about their emotions took a negative turn, leading to a sense of being trapped or immobilized, as indicated by the metaphor of being "mummified." This transformation reflects the idea that vulnerability can sometimes have unintended consequences, resulting in a state of emotional paralysis and isolation.

Overall, "Lullaby" explores the power of shared experiences and emotions, as well as the potential consequences of vulnerability. It laments a loss of connection and the emotional burdens that can arise from expressing sadness.

I can't get any information here in the U.S. but it appears that Omar was pretty much grown, by about 10-12 yrs, old. He went to school and got some higher education but it seems that it was to perfect and hone the skill he was already given. At around that age he might have supported his whole family. If anyone from Britain see this, I love to learn whatever there is to learn about this man and also Don-E.

Thank you, so much for notifying me. That was really kind and I will keep an eye out for the date. I used to television public-service for ten years; this time of thing is what's da bomb about media work and access. Keep up the good work, and milk the experience as much as you can. When it's in your system, it's hard to let go of. Take care and thank you again.

I guess I missed the interview if it's already been, but I have listened to almost all of Omar's new album. I need to make sure I've things straight; is he Omar Akram too ? I know I read this, but, hell, I"m old honey, and I don't want to make too much more of fool of myself ! LOL He's just the type of "hustler" who would have two personas, that's why I ask, and also, because the Akram collection is worth millions, lush and beautiful. Don't forget about me ! Hope all's well

I've complained to Amazon US, and UK. I've annoyed some folks, but my clout is gone, so I can't throw pretend- weight around anymore. I clicked on "This is Not A Love Song" and I went crazy. It's a been just this year. During the holidays, the concerts that D'Angelo did started showing up. I followed him everywhere he'd been.An atty. wouldn't be much better than me, on research. I saw his and Don-e's collaboration on "Your Love Is Cold" and then I acquainted myself with him, found Omar. Hooked !

Evian, whenever you've got a few minutes, I want to ask you about a star who just got out of jail, like recently. I'm hoping you can surmise who I'm talking about. Had the jam on both sides. Who's Omar singing with on here Her voice is nice ?

I think so too. If I don't get a chance to tune in, cause I've got to find it first, just tell him he's got a senior fan; and, that I'm sorry I'm late, but at least I found him, and Don-e., on my own. I think his music is the hottest thing going right now. I've been the Eventful website to request that he come to my city, though I doubt that'll happen. Maybe, I'll get to see him, if I visit my son who lives in NYC. I love him !!!!
