The Chicago & Minneapolis-based musicians – Nate Eiesland, Alissa Ricci, and Ryne Estwing — that comprise the band had played music with one another in various capacities for the better part of a decade — most recently as members of indie-pop outfit Scattered Trees, with whom they were performing that very weekend. And while they’d always shared something of an unspoken musical connection, the three of them, at that very moment, felt a different sort of bond; together they had an insatiable impulse to flip the script on everything they had known about making music.

Conservative compromises would be a thing of the past; ON AN ON, as they would name their band, would make music and art that melted outside the lines. It was perfect timing: they were already scheduled to record in a Toronto studio in two week’s time with acclaimed producer, Dave Newfeld (Broken Social Scene). With a knack for genre-melding, and a boundary-pushing mindset, Newfeld would prove to be the perfect match for the trio’s new caution-less approach: synthesizers, scattershot electro beats and ambient ear candy would give guitars, bass and drums a newfound ghostly sheen. The end result was Give In, ON AN ON’s ten-track debut album – a dream-washed textural journey armed with a biting perspective on the commonality of loss. Even with the OLD Nighthawk stealth technology, the engineers needed to minimize all bolt borders/exchanges.

Kudos for them making a great drone, natively. That's a huge accomplishment worthy of accolade. But it's basically, a J-20 shaped Bayraktar. Which is still great! But most western nations don't have to worry about it. Best thing about the Bayraktars are their small size. So this...just kinda negates that edge.

Same company that built the AI in Ghost Bat built the AI in Taranis UK Stealth Bomber drone back in 2014. but not one word has come out about how good it is.

Australian defence walked out after a few months of a 3 year programme.
Guess Defence has other ideas on how far we use a AI in conflicts.

Near-future EMP munitions and applied tech will always be a thorn in the side of Drones. A ways off yet, but its the logical progression as a defence. UAVs will become very common for combined arms, but production and maintenance will become harder and harder...and keep them for specialised utility. I can certainly foresee the application of smaller swarms of combat aircraft automated as a hive-mind? like is lauded in post-modern sci-fi tropes. And if AI keeps going...it's a sign of the times. I found a vehicle that holds a lot of the characteristics of unknown air vehicles. It has officially never been used as more than an experimental vehicle but is the predecessor to moe advanced stealth drones. Have you ever checked out the X-47A Pegasus? Look it up. No visible flight surfaces or propulsion. Diamond shaped from below or above. Tictac shape when viewed from any side. I imagine it would look like it is making impossible turns when it switches directions when viewed at a distance, because with the shape it is very difficult to identify what direction it is pointed in. I don’t think you would be able to tell it had oriented in a different direction. I think it would look like it was going one way, stop, then go the opposite direction.
You have to check it out! There is also an interesting system already in development for AI drones called the “Skyborg” system, and a DARPA project for AI copilot assist called Aircrew Labor In-Cockpit Automation System (ALIAS). Im excited to learn more as more info is released.

The reason unmanned drones aren't given a more direct combat role, at least right now, is the network latency issue. If the drone is commanded from half-way around the globe, with signals hopping from satellite to satellite, you'll see a latency measured in seconds. That means during a traditional dogfight, when the ground-based pilot attempts a maneuver and moves his control stick, it might take a second or two for the drone to receive and initiate the maneuver. A few seconds could mean defeat in combat.

Another issue, which is a real-world problem already seen with US-based military drones, is that the enemy may jam the signals and seize control of the drone. If the enemy could jam signals, your drone may never leave your base or carrier, or will just fall out of the sky.

The military industrial complex, of any nation, can be really good at selling the government on all the outstanding features of a weapon system. That doesn't mean it is as cool as they want to make you believe.

The human and communication latency is solvable by AI, but you are correct in a way. It’s mission will still need human operational awareness which can be jammed. But this slow speed of this drone makes it an easy target. However, it’s a launching pad for faster, longer range, and more terrifying unmanned aircraft, which I’m relatively confident the US military already have.

Okay, so this is an impressive rapid development by Baykar. The description of the AESA radar on the drone as "ground-breaking" is laughable, since the features described that supposedly warrant this description are common to all AESA radars. What is being described is a "First past the post of publication" airframe. We will only know how groundbreaking it is retrospectively, when put in context against offerings fielded by other nations in the next couple of years.

Bayraktar's drone cannot be compared to the F-35 because an F-35 is a component of a larger system. If deployed properly; a Lightning II will be backed by satellites, an AWAC-type aircraft, an electronic warfare craft, fighter cap, etc. In a few years, add Loyal Wingman into the mix. It really will not be a true one-on-one skirmish.

The Bayraktar design will also change with time and experience. One huge advantage is that it doesn't have to keep a squishy little human alive, which does nothing but cost resources. Besides, since there is no human and also expandable price tag, it can be used fiercely and recklessly. That alone gives a lot of advantage. The true information about this drone is that it will come in 4 variations and 2 of them with 2 engines. I assume the variant with 2 engine will have air to air missions. The owner of Bayraktar stated that the finilised variants with air to air missions drone will be able to get into dog fight and possibly win against F35 with numbers 4 drones against 1 F35 as drones are expendable and also cheaper than manned fighter aircraft. He pointed out, like most of the guys commented here is that a drone has the advantages to manoeuvre more because is unmanned and we all know that pilots are limited because of the g force. He also said that the drone has an AI and gathers information from all flights which means in future when the drone is finalised and operated in certain situations like dog fights I think it will be a real deal as this things are cheaper and unmanned so there is a little chance for error.

Seeing as the insides of the Bayraktar TB-2 were basically chock full of Western tech, implying that the drone itself was tacitly made with the cooperation of the west, I get the feeling this one will be no different. And it makes sense, you don't just wake up one day with the expertise to create a modern drone, let alone one that beats the established experts. It takes time. It's not a knock against Turkish engineers, they just don't have the experience to do it by themselves.

The weapons systems are basically British and as you already mentioned it, the propulsion is Canadian (by way of Austria through Bombardier's subsidiary, Rotax). Again, I'm not disparaging Turkish engineers but going from 0 to Bayraktar TB2 is impossible without years of experience and proven technologies. Now, since it's been discovered that it was full of non indigenous tech, export restrictions have been put in place in many of the source countries and as a result, Turkey has had to source inferior (often times local) parts which in the opinion of perspective buyers are simultaneously overweight and underperforming. Anything else you want to know?

This wasn't designed to go head to head with an f35 in 1v1 it is designed with against them 1v3 or more. And the drone's AI is advanced enough to do most of it's duty by itsel except attacking for that it needs orders and you would be able to control them from an F16 or TFX for ATA and ATG attacks.

Interesting, the weights are in kilograms but the altitude is in feet, not meters? Also, a maximum altitude of 35,000' is not exceptional, but 35,000 meters is very exceptional!

whats lost in these drones is the latency issues. By the time the info goes from the drone to remote pilot and back might be 3 or more seconds. AI might help with this (Sandboxx covered this)

lol yea this one has a joystick but take Australia MQ28 Ghost Bat fully AI drone it has no joysticks a human inputs a mission command and the drone completes entire mission on it's own. so is no lateny.
Sandboxx won't do a piece on Australia drone because he seems too pro American and only does American stuff or anti Chinese and Russian tech on their exageration etc.

Radar "invisible" Stealth drones' main enemy in the future will be laser ground or aerial platforms. Keep in mind, any other aircraft built today, regardless of how advanced it is for that country, that aircraft is 20 years behind any 5th Gen Aircraft the US has. If you don't believe me, this drone, the Chinese and Russian modern aircraft are all 5th gen and recently put into service, the US is already developing 6th gen drones and fighters and our 5th gen aircraft are considered Aging at this point. I fully expect Skunkworks engineers are laughing at this thing because of the 4 other prototypes they have in their hangers that already outshine this bird.

I doubt that thing would be comparable to a 1960's era T-38 in capability, let alone an F-35. Look at how flimsy it looks when taxiing, taking off, and landing. Seems to be more the perception of capability than anything else. My guess is this will just be a slick looking jet powered R/C plane with video and light weight bomb drop capability at best.

I don't see how AI and remote piloting can replace full ability of a piloted aircraft, especially in combat. I think people are depending way too much on unmanned vehicles of any kind. Reality is that no one but the ones working on it, know what the US has hidden from curious eyes. Time will tell!

Couple of benefits of remote piloted aircraft.... G's have no effect, operator can take a leak as needed, take a nap, or take a meal by turning on auto-pilot. If it is shot down, no loss of crew. But there are limitations as well. Signal jamming is possible. Less sophisticated technology and sensors make it vulnerable to over horizon attacks by more advanced fighters.

Drones with advanced AI fighting alongside other piloted fighters is next step we will take. Full automated squadrons of drones is still years off, but is coming.

The problem is the F-35 has more of a support role so you will not see them with out a few F-22s escorting them so its not the F-35 you want to beat its the F-22.

As Ex-Military, there is no Drone that can out perform a manned fighter, specifically, the F-35 and definitely not the F-22. There is always Latency between the Drone and the Operator. A modern Navy or Air Force pilot would not experience that lag. At best, this Drone could distract but I guarantee you, it will never defeat an ass in the seat driver.

This thing can be downed so easily with an EMP pulse. All that has to be done is to interfere with the connection and it is in the tank. The faster it goes, the easier we can catch it. There are no cell phones that work even a few miles away so what makes anyone think they can control it at any distance. It's is a huge bluff and that is why they are doing everything on social media. It is a very expensive guided missile.
