Jesus Loves Me
Organ Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

I don't wanna deal
With my reflection
I don't wanna look
In that direction

When I pass the mirror
I have to look away
Another silly fear
It'll pass some day

I wanna starve myself
Sculpt and carve myself
Look like all the actors
They got fame and wealth

I'll be there soon, myself
Autotune myself
To climb the ladder
Till my body sells

Then they'll all love me, love me love me love me
Someone will love me, love me love me love me
Love me

I don't wanna show
Without a filter
The face I really know
Will not fulfill her

When we used to speak
I'd never hide my face
I was at my peak
I'm in a different place

I wanna hide myself
Keep inside myself
Leave here far away
Where there's no one else

Then I'll change myself
Rearrange myself
I'll come back later
When I have my health

Then they'll all love me, love me love me love me
Someone will love me, love me love me love me
Love me

Then they'll all love me, love me love me love me

Someone will love me, love me love me love me
Love me

Overall Meaning

In the lyrics to Organ's song "Jesus Loves Me," there is a poignant exploration of themes such as self-esteem, identity, and the pursuit of external validation. The song opens with a sense of discomfort and avoidance towards one's own reflection, suggesting a lack of self-acceptance and perhaps a struggle with body image. The singer expresses a desire to change themselves physically to fit the mold of societal standards, seeking to emulate the appearance of famous actors in hopes of gaining admiration and approval from others.

The mention of autotune and the desire to climb the ladder until their body sells reflects a longing for success and recognition in the music industry, implying a willingness to compromise their authenticity and manipulate their image for the sake of gaining popularity. The repetition of "love me" throughout the chorus underscores the deep yearning for love and acceptance, highlighting a sense of emptiness and insecurity that the singer hopes to fill through external validation.

As the song progresses, there is a shift towards isolation and withdrawal, with the singer wanting to hide and escape from the scrutiny of others. The use of filters and the fear of not being able to live up to expectations further emphasize the theme of self-doubt and the pressure to conform to societal norms. The mention of leaving far away and coming back later when they have 'health' suggests a desire for a fresh start or reinvention, indicating a longing for a new identity free from judgment and criticism.

Ultimately, the repetition of the refrain "Then they'll all love me" and the plea for someone to love them reveal a deep-seated yearning for connection and affirmation. The lyrics capture the complexity of self-image and the struggle to find genuine acceptance, portraying a journey of self-discovery and the quest for love and understanding. Overall, the song delves into the emotional turmoil of seeking validation from external sources, questioning the cost of sacrificing one's true self in the pursuit of approval.

A much beloved hymn. It is in our children's church Hymnal. I believe it is a hymn that can be sung by everyone no matter the age. It is sung as a general Sunday morning hymn at a Presbyterian Church I know the Music Director at. When she schedules this hymn her church is filled with singing voices on this hymn.

@mickeyears2011

I lead my kids choir to this song every Sunday morning during the worship service at Church

We sang "Jesus Loves Me" at my cousin's Funeral Service in June, Lance.  In her teens, Janet was a Sunday School Teacher in Dufftown (Scotland's Whisky Capital) before going on to be a Children's Nurse in Aberdeen.  I thought it most appropriate for her.  Charlie, Aberdeen, UK

I started School in April 1953. Lance, and along with "God is Always Near Me", this was the first Hymn I ever knew. Verse 2 seemed to intrigue me, Lance, with: "He will wash away my sin." I couldn't think what it meant but I mind on wiping our Slates with a damp cloth. I dashed home and asked my mother, "Mam. What's away my sin? Is that my Slate?" All these years on, I can't recall her answer! Innocent, happy days, Lance! Charlie, Aberdeen, Scotland
