Part of Your World

Look at this stuff, isn't it neat?
Wouldn't you think my collection's complete?
Wouldn't you think I'm the girl
The girl who has everything?

Look at this trove, treasures untold
How many wonders can one cavern hold?
Looking around here you'd think
Sure, she's got everything

I've got gadgets and gizmos a plenty
I've got whozits and whatzits galore
You want thingamabobs? I've got twenty!
But who cares? No big deal,
I want more

I wanna be where the people are
I wanna see, wanna see them dancing

Walking around on those
What do you call 'em? Oh, feet

Flipping your fins you don't get too far
Legs are required for jumping, dancing
Strolling along down a
What's that word again?
Street

Up where they walk, up where they run
Up where they stay all day in the sun
Wandering free
Wish I could be, part of that world

What would I give if I could live
Out of these waters?
What would I pay to spend a day
Warm on the sand?

Betcha' on land, they understand
Bet they don't reprimand their daughters
Bright young women, sick of swimming
Ready to stand

I'm ready to know what the people know
Ask 'em my questions
And get some answers
What's a fire and why does it?
What's the word?
Burn?

When's it my turn?
Wouldn't I love, love to explore that shore up above?
Out of the sea

Wish I could be
Part of that world

Overall Meaning

The song "Part of Your World" is a iconic Disney ballad from the 1989 animated film The Little Mermaid that was later adapted for the Broadway production. It is performed by the main character, Ariel, who yearns to be part of the human world. The song starts with Ariel showing her collection of human things that she found underwater, expressing how much she wishes to leave the sea and become a human. She goes on to explain that she feels unfulfilled and wants more than just her current life under the sea. She dreams of walking on two legs, exploring the human world, and gaining knowledge about life on land.

The song is very relatable as people often find themselves wanting something more in life, and it’s a universal feeling to yearn for something that you don’t have. The lyrics capture Ariel's curiosity about the human world, and her willingness to understand and be part of it. The line "What's a fire? And why does it burn?" represents Ariel's innocence and curiosity towards human experiences. The song is very powerful, with the dramatic operatic vocal styling and the lyrics that resonate with so many people.

Okay, I’ve got a random parody for y’all:

Look at this stuff…
GOD, IT’S DEPRESSING.
silence
Wouldn’t you think I’m “the pooch,
the pooch who gets pampered twice?”
Look at this book,
pages unturned.
How many candles won’t blow ‘til they’re burned?
Looking around here, you’d think –
in Aussie accent, eat your heart out Bluey and Porsha Crystal “Can I get pampered more than twice?”

normal accent I’ve been treated with phone calls, like, maybe.
They still know who I am as before.
Valley girl accent Want a sweet frozen rush that I saw at 7/11?
Like, it cost $17.
normal accent But who cares?
No big deal, I want more…

I wanna be… French accent where the boys are.
normal accent I wanna glow, through a show’r of petals,
feel like I’m flying on –
Oh, what does Prince Cornelius call them?
Oh, yeah. Wings.

“But wait, there’s more.”

I’ve more than survived it, like Catherine Parr.
But, change is required so that I’d feel settled,
twirling in tune, and it’s –
Uh, what did Rachel Zegler tell me it was?
Spring!

Up where they walk, everyone tries,
up where they say that love never dies!
Wandering free, wish I could be
part of that world.

piano starts to go off bounds now: Dame da ne… IT’S THE SAME CHORD PROGRESSION

Who would’ve thought, it’s all a plot
escaping my shelter?
And what would I say if there’s a way
I’d make some friends?
Betcha on ground they might be found
tanning on beaches where they swelter.
When I’m older, ‘stead of colder,
that would make sense!

Oh…
I’m ready to do what the land folk do.
Ask ‘em my questions
and solve some theories.
Who’s Eliza, and why does she sing that song…
“Burn”?

When it’s my chance, wouldn’t I care…
just to see something somewhere out there?
holds note and riffs it like hell

Far from my dreams,
wish I could be…

sings Think of Me cadenza Ah-h-h-h-h-h-h, ah-h-h-h-h-h-h, ah-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h, ah-AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! (that was a high soprano C#6!!!!!)

silence, then…

…part of that world.

soft flourish
piano plays final notes of “That Would Be Enough”

Fact:This song nearly was cut from the original 1989 film because Menken and Asherman thought it sounded too sad. We can certainly agree they made the right to keep this in.
