Roflcopter
Ott Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

lie, cheat, deceive, connive
buy now, pay later
consolidate your loans, take more, give less
drive big, eat all you can
survival of the fattest
shock and awe
regime change
do as i say, not as i do
eye for an eye
free money if you fall over, sue the company

diminished responsibility
everything is acceptable, as.. long.... as..... house..... prices...... don't......... crash...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ott's song "Roflcopter" are a scathing critique of various aspects of modern society. The opening lines "lie, cheat, deceive, connive" highlight the prevalence of dishonesty and manipulation in our everyday lives. This is followed by "buy now, pay later" and "consolidate your loans, take more, give less," which speak to the dangers of consumerism and debt that have become normalized in our society. "Survival of the fattest" and "eat all you can" criticize the societal obsession with excess and overconsumption, leading to health problems and environmental damage. The lines "shock and awe" and "regime change" point to the futility and destructive nature of modern warfare, while "do as i say, not as i do" and "diminished responsibility" highlight hypocrisy and lack of accountability in those in power. The song ends with a cynical message that everything is acceptable as long as house prices don't crash, emphasizing the importance of money and profit above all else in our society.

Overall, "Roflcopter" is a biting social commentary on the state of the modern world and the systems that govern it.

Saw this live yesterday. In the sea of people I yelled from the top of my lungs EVERYTHING IS ACCEPTABLE AS LONG AS HOUSE PRICES DON'T CRASH. A girl stared at me for a long time and then just walked away. A magnificient night none the less.

@paulsimonon7944

it says hells prices not house. i prob would have stared at you to lol

@davearci

@Paul Simonon yeah, no, its house prices, and a part of the commentary on british society that precedes it

@copywrittenambulanceproject

hm makes sense either way. hell's or house. i always "house" but now I hear "hell's" and it's like a great joke. "everything is acceptable as long as hell's prices don't crash" it does present me moreso with the darkside of the tune/tone.

@@paulsimonon7944 Nonsense. It's a British accent.

I've been that girl in times past. The true nature of the moment peaks through and is so intoxicating that all you can is stare. After you've been staring for a long time, what can do then but walk away? You changed the course of the girl's life that day.
