The Ozark Mountain Daredevils started in 1971 in Springfield, Missouri in an attempt by the singer/songwriter members to have a vehicle in which to display and promote their music. At first, they played in bars and on porches. However, a record executive from A&M records discovered the band, and they began their recording path.
The original members of the band consisted of:
John Dillion - (vocals, guitars, mandolin, fiddle, piano, harp, autoharp, dulcimer, jawbone, percussion, keyboards)
Mike "Supe" Granda - (vocals, bass, acoustic guitar, mandolin, percussion, chicken squawks)
Buddy Brayfield - (vocals, oboe, piano, harpsichord, organ, percussion, electric piano)
Randle Chowning - (vocals, lead electric & acoustic guitars, harp, national steel, mandolin)
Steve Cash - (vocals, harp, percussion, harpsichord)
Larry Lee - (vocals, drums, acoustic guitar, synthesizer, piano, percussion, saw, saw & board)
The Daredevils peaked commercially in 1973-1974 and were best known for "Jackie Blue" and "If You Wanna Get To Heaven", which both got national coverage. However, there was a wide range of music that the Daredevils produced that was widely missed. The influences of the locale and the talents of the band members produced some unique sounds that could be related to "rockabilly" influences. There was also a good body of music that could be classified as country, rock, ballads, folk or blues.
The band changed throughout the years, but played prevantly throughout the '70s and gained and lost members during that time. To this day, there is still a loyal and avid fan following. There are discs still being released by the group, mostly of past performances in the '70s. In addition, many of the members are currently still working on other interests including Randle Chowning, Larry Lee ("Beyond Reach") Mike "Supe" Granda, and possibly others.
A reunion concert was held in Springfield, Missouri at the refurbished Gilloiz Theatre, in May of 2007. The three nights they performed were entirely sold out, weeks in advance of the concert.

Leaves you only a trace
And the sun
Finds its way to your face
[Chorus]
It couldn't be better,
It couldn't be better, Lord
And the one
That you gave all your charms
Finds his way
To the depth of your arms
[Chorus: x2]
Than it is right now
Than it is right now
The lyrics of Ozark Mountain Daredevils' song "It Couldn't" convey a sense of contentment and satisfaction with the present moment. The opening lines suggest a past of sadness or tears, but now the sun is shining on the singer's face. The chorus repeats the sentiment that things "couldn't be better" right now. The second verse describes someone who has captivated the singer and found their way into their arms. The song as a whole seems to celebrate the simple pleasures of life and the fleeting moments of joy that can be found in them.
One interesting aspect of the song is its use of the contraction "couldn't" instead of "could not" in the title and chorus. This reflects a common regional dialect in the southern United States, where the Ozark Mountains are located. The Ozark Mountain Daredevils themselves were from Missouri and blended country, rock, and folk influences. Another notable feature of the song is its upbeat tempo and major key, which reinforce the happy-go-lucky vibe of the lyrics.

My wife of many decades is from Eastern Europe and she finally really listened to my OMD album and she really likes this song and 'Lowlands'. Her taste in music is impeccable, if not her taste in men. ha She loves our tree frogs...

Don’t know how my comment got there twice-once was enough right? Busby loved E E Lawson too! Gotta love it! Damn it Louie Busby resembled Gregg Allman, that ROCKED my world even more, Gregg is my man, always will be! Came close to Gregory more than once, usually left me speechless but I got right next to him, got his autograph and and a few words AND a kiss!!! Whoa, what a 34th birthday! Hell yes♾✌️✝️🍊🥰
