The Shepherd
P.G. Six Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The Good Shepherd gives his life
And receives it back again
Anyone who enters the sheepfold
Any other way than thru the door is a thief
The one who enters thru the door is the shepherd
He calls the sheep, and they hear his voice
The sheep follow they know the voice
They will not follow a stranger
The Good Shepherd gives his life
The Good Shepherd gives his life
And receives it back again
I am the door
All who came before were thieves
The sheep did not listen
I am the door
Enter and be saved
The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy
In me have life abundantly
The Good Shepherd gives his life
The Good Shepherd gives his life
And receives it back again
The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep
A hired hand doesn't care when the wolf approaches
He runs away and the wolf attacks
I am the good shepherd
I know mine and mine know me
There are more in other folds to be gathered
On flock with one shepherd
The good shepherd gives his life
No one takes it
In authority he gives and receives it back again
The Good Shepherd gives his life
The Good Shepherd gives his life
And receives it back again
The song "The Shepherd" by P.G. Six appears to be a reference to the biblical story of Jesus Christ as the Good Shepherd who lays down his life for his flock. The lyrics use imagery of sheep and a shepherd to convey a message of salvation and the relationship between the shepherd and the sheep he leads. The repeated phrase "The Good Shepherd gives his life / And receives it back again" refers to Jesus' sacrifice and resurrection.
The lyrics also mention the idea of a thief entering the sheepfold, which could represent someone attempting to mislead or harm the flock. The shepherd is depicted as the only one who can rightfully enter and lead the sheep, and the sheep will only follow the voice they recognize as their shepherd. This is likely a metaphor for following Jesus' teachings and recognizing his voice as the true guide.
Overall, "The Shepherd" is a contemplative and spiritual song that encourages listeners to reflect on the idea of a benevolent leader who sacrifices himself for the sake of his followers.
