P.Y.T. was a Florida-based girl group in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Unlike many pop groups, PYT.'s formation was not the result of scouting by a talent agency or a series of auditions. Instead, these Tampa teenagers. Lauren Mayhew , Ashley Niven, Lydia Bell, Tracy Williams had all been childhood friends. They had previously performed together in the Tampa Entertainment Revue (through Busch Gardens) and were signed to Epic Records in 1998. The members of PYT derived their group's name from a Michael Jackson song entitled "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)," though on some occasions the girls used the acronym "PYT." to stand for the slogan "Prove Yourself True," based on their song, "Prove Yourself". Among the members of the group, Tracy Williams was the alto and sung lower harmonies, Lauren Mayhew and Ashley Niven were mezzo-sopranos and sung the melody line, and Lydia Bell was the soprano who sung higher harmonies. Ashley Niven was the lead vocalist on the tracks on the album PYT (Down With Me). The group is best known for their singles: "Something More Beautiful", "Same Ol Same Ol" and "PYT (Down With Me)". They were also featured on the soundtracks to the films 'Bring It On' and 'Center Stage', and appeared in label-mate Mandy Moore's music video for "Candy".
The group's debut album, "PYT (Down With Me)", was released in August of 2001, and the band disbanded shortly after. Bell & Mayhew attempted to form a new band, Turning Pointe, that ended fairly quickly. Williams had a bit more success, forming her own R&B based trio, UC3.

Somebody will sweep you off your feet someday
That's what I hoped would happen with you
More than you could know
I wanted to tell you that my hearts in your hands,
I prayed for the day that I would get the chance
Just when I worked up the courage to try
You had somebody else,
Cause these feelings I keep to myself
I may never get to hold you, so tight
I may never get to kiss you, goodnight
I may never get look deep in your eyes, or so it seems
I always will be wishing
You were mine
I think about what could be, all the time
All the happiness that I could find
Baby, a girl can dream
From the moment I wake up
Till I fall asleep
I imagine you not with her but with me
Talking and Laughing and sharing our dreams
It's just a fantasy.
Cause you have somebody else
Cause the feelings I kept to myself
I may never get to hold you, so tight
I may never get to kiss you, goodnight
I may never get look deep in your eyes, or so it seems
I always will be wishing
You were mine
I think about what could be, all the time
All the happiness that I could find
Baby, a girl can dream
A girl can dream it's true
And to call you my own
It's the sweetest dream of all
Oh oh oh
I may never get to hold you, so tight
I may never get to kiss you, goodnight
I may never get look deep in your eyes, or so it seems
I always will be wishing
You were mine
I think about what could be, all the time
All the happiness that I could find
Baby, a girl can dream
In "A Girl Can Dream" by P.Y.T., the artist sings about unrequited love and the pain that comes along with it. The lyrics suggest that as a child, the artist believed in the fairy tale that one day, someone would come along and sweep her off her feet. She hoped that this person could be the one, but unfortunately, things did not go as planned. As the artist found the courage to express her love, she discovered that the person she loved already had somebody else, leaving her with unfulfilled feelings.
Despite these obstacles, the artist admits that she cannot help but continue to dream about what could have been. She imagines a world where she and the love of her life are laughing, talking, and sharing their dreams together. The chorus repeatedly states the idea that a girl can dream, even if these dreams are not realistic. The song ends with the artist acknowledging that the relationship may never happen but holding onto hope that one day, the dream will come true.
Overall, the lyrics of "A Girl Can Dream" depict the painful longing of someone who cannot be with the person they love. The song touches on the fantasy that many people hold onto, even when the reality is harsh.
