Desiree
Paddy Goes to Holyhead Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
dressed up in silk and black negligee
After the tempest she is so calm,
no one comes near her serenity
She once had a house down in Hollywood,
living her life was a fantasy
Now she has cooled off her red hot blood,
now she sits down drinking perfum tea
[chorus:]
Desiree - look at the stars, fallen at your feet
Desiree - what are you waiting for, who are you going to meet
The queen now has driven to sunny Spain,
she lives in a bungalow on the beach
She′s had a black sorrow sadness and pain,
now she´s completely gone out of reach
The waters are calling calling to you,
and you listen cleary to what they say
Now you know what it is you must do,
now you are leaving and on your way
[chorus]
The song "Desiree" by Paddy Goes to Holyhead tells the story of a former queen who has left her glamorous life behind and retreated to a peaceful existence in Spain. The song portrays Desiree as a woman who has seen everything and has experienced the highs and lows of life. She is a woman who has had to weather many storms and came out of them stronger and more serene. The song reflects on the fact that despite everything that has happened to her, Desiree remains a woman of poise and grace, someone who has mastered the art of tranquility.
The chorus of the song urges Desiree to look at the stars and remember that she is someone special. It is a reminder that she has come so far and that the universe is still hers to command. Despite being in a new place, she is not alone, and there is much more for her to look forward to. Overall, the song is about renewal, recovery, and finding peace in one's life.
