Pallbearer Lyrics

Perceive the heart that I am holding
Metallic trails
Stream down my arms
It loved to swear
Upon the lies that it foretold to me
And I: its pawn
Guided blindly unto harm
Laid so bare
all that's visible is crimson
Still feel its primal song
Though hollowed out inside
I prepare
To drink deep its well of wisdom
Rend away the sinew
fitting, bitter ending to its spite
In my hands
To carve away
A lifeless star
Makes darkest day
Beyond reprieve
No more to stray
Silenced call
Extinguished flame
There, it's done
I've ended its dominion
Blood red tyrant
Now overthrown
Empty chest
Without familiar rhythm
Its knowledge, mine
Deepest secrets, shown
As cold as ancient stone
The ruined heart has been disowned
The pain is mine, and mine alone
Its grievances at last atoned
The lyrics to Pallbearer's song "Heartless" convey a sense of pain, betrayal, and the ultimate triumph over a love or relationship that has caused deep emotional wounds. The opening lines, "Piercing stare, Perceive the heart that I am holding, Metallic trails, Stream down my arms," suggest a visual representation of the pain and anguish that the singer is experiencing. The metallic trails may symbolize tears or perhaps the physical manifestation of emotional scars.
The lyrics go on to describe a love that was built on lies and deception, with the singer being blindly led down a path of harm. The line "It loved to swear, Upon the lies that it foretold to me" indicates that the love or relationship itself was deceptive and unreliable. Despite this, there is still a strong connection to the remaining fragments of love, as expressed in the line "Still feel its primal song, Though hollowed out inside." This suggests that even though the singer has been hurt, there is still a lingering attachment and longing for what was once there.
As the song progresses, there is a shift in tone towards a sense of empowerment and a desire for closure. The lines "In my hands, To carve away, A lifeless star, Makes darkest day" suggest a determination to remove the pain and darkness that this love has caused. The act of carving away a lifeless star could symbolize the destruction or removal of something once considered beautiful and significant, but now rendered lifeless.
Ultimately, the singer declares victory over the love that had once dominated their existence. The lines "There, it's done, I've ended its dominion, Blood red tyrant, Now overthrown" suggest a sense of liberation and triumph. The heart that was once the source of torment has been disowned, and the singer has taken control of their own destiny. The ending lines of the song express a sense of closure and personal redemption, as the singer proclaims, "The pain is mine, and mine alone, Its grievances at last atoned." This implies that the singer has accepted the pain as their own, and has found a way to find peace and resolution within themselves.

This has such deep, rich atmosphere and the guitar tones/solos are killer...the kind you can really feel stirring emotions. Great job (again) Pallbearer. Thanx for a commercial free upload.

The last track just makes me smile, specifically around the clean part before the vocals kick in. Smile and nod... How can this exist? :) Forever in debt Pallbearer. Thank you for these sounds.

Seriously awesome album. No duds in the track list.

This is stupid good. In particular I'm really digging more palm mute, chugga chugga riffs on this album compared with Sorrow and Extinction (thus far the only other album I've listened to as I'm just getting into this band). Don't get me wrong, Sorrow and Extinction is astounding. I'm just trying to hear the differences as they've developed as a band.

This album fit so well into my life when it came out, that's it's hard to come back and listen to. For me, it will probably always be my favorite of theirs, BUT, who knows.
