I Constantly Thank God for Esteban
Panic! at the Disco Lyrics
Give us this day our daily dose of faux affliction
Forgive our sins forged at the pulpit
With forked tongues selling faux sermons
Because I am a new wave gospel sharp
And you'll be thy witness
So gentlemen, if you're gonna preach
For God sakes preach with conviction
Strike up the band
Oh, the conductor is beckoning
No, don't you get it, don't you get it, now
Don't you move
Strike up the band
Oh, the conductor is beckoning
Come, congregation, and let's sing it like you mean it
No, don't you get it, don't you get it now
Don't you move
Just stay where I can see you
Douse the lights
We sure are in for a show tonight
In this little number we are graced by two displays of character
We've got the gunslinger extraordinaire
Walking contradiction
And I for one can see no blood from the hearts
And the wrists you allegedly slit
And I for one won't stand for this
If this scene were a parish you'd all be condemned
Strike up the band
Oh, the conductor is beckoning
Come, congregation, and let's sing it like you mean it
No, don't you get it, don't you get it now
Don't you move
Strike up the band
Oh, the conductor is beckoning
Come, congregation, and let's sing it like you mean it
No, don't you get it, don't you get it?
Don't you, don't you move
Just stay where I can see you
Douse the lights
We sure are in for a show tonight
Just stay where I can see you
Douse the lights
We sure are in for a show tonight
Stay where I can see you

Strike up the band

It was originally a pop rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada, formed in 2004 by childhood friends Urie, Ryan Ross, Spencer Smith, and Brent Wilson. They recorded their first demos while they were in high school. Shortly after, the band recorded and released their debut studio album, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out (2005). Popularized by the second single, "I Write Sins Not Tragedies", the album was certified triple platinum in the US. In 2006, founding bassist Brent Wilson was fired from the band during an extensive world tour and subsequently replaced by Jon Walker. The band's second album, Pretty. Odd. (2008), was preceded by the single "Nine in the Afternoon". That album marked a significant departure from the sound of the band's debut. Ross and Walker, who favored the band's new direction, departed because Urie and Smith wanted to make further changes to the band's style. Ross and Walker subsequently formed a new band, the Young Veins, leaving Urie and Smith as the sole remaining members of Panic! at the Disco.
Continuing as a duo, Urie and Smith released a new single, "New Perspective", for the movie Jennifer's Body, and recruited bassist Dallon Weekes and guitarist Ian Crawford as touring musicians for live performances. Weekes was later inducted into the band's lineup as a full-time member in 2010. The band's third studio album, Vices & Virtues (2011), was recorded solely by Urie and Smith in 2010, produced by John Feldmann and Butch Walker. Crawford departed once the tour cycle for Vices & Virtues ended in 2012.
As a three-piece, Urie, Smith, and Weekes recorded and released the band's fourth studio album, Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die!, in 2013. Prior to the release of the album, Smith unofficially left the band due to health and drug-related issues, leaving Urie and Weekes as the remaining members. The duo recruited guitarist Kenneth Harris and drummer Dan Pawlovich as touring musicians for live performances.
In 2015, Smith officially left the band after not performing live with them since his departure in 2013. Shortly thereafter, Weekes reverted to being a touring member once again, resulting in Panic! becoming Urie's solo project. In April 2015, "Hallelujah" was released as the first single from Panic! at the Disco's fifth studio album, Death of a Bachelor (2016). In December 2017, Weekes officially announced his departure from the band. In March 2018, Panic! at the Disco released "Say Amen (Saturday Night)", the lead single from its sixth studio album, Pray for the Wicked (2018), which was released in June.

London Beckoned Songs About Money Written by Machines - quote from the Douglas Coupland novel Shampoo Planet
Nails for Breakfast, Tacks for Snacks - apparently a saying Ryan’s dad would tell him to toughen him up (the song is also about Ryan’s pops)
Camisado - the name of a surprise military operation that takes place at night or daybreak
Time to Dance - not an explicit reference but the lyrics are based entirely off the novel Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahnuik
Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off - quote from the movie Closer
But It’s Better If You Do - also a direct quote from Closer. I think the full line is ‘Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off, but it’s better if you do”
I Write Sins Not Tragedies - another quote from Shampoo Planet by Douglas Coupland

There’s a good reason these tables aren’t numbered - Ryan said once that the title was actually a lyric from a song that was cut from the album
Build God, Then We’ll Talk - no one actually seems to know where this came from. People say it’s a quote from Choke by Chuck Palahniuk but apparently that’s wrong. Who knows

Lyrics
Give us this day our daily dose of faux afflictions
And forgive our sins
Forged at the pulpit
With forked tounges selling faux sermons
Cause I am a new wave gospel sharp and you'll be thy witness
So gentlemen if you're gonna preach
For god sakes preach with conviction
Strike up the band woah oh
The conductor is beckoning
Come, congregation, let's sing it like you mean it, no
Dont you get it, dont you get it, now dont you move
Strike up the band woah oh
The conductor is beckoning
Come, congregation, let's sing it like you mean it, no
Dont you get it, dont you get it, now dont you move
Just stay where I can see you
Douse the lights
We sure are in for a show tonight
In this little number we are graced by two displays of character
We got the gunslinger extrodinar
Walking contradictions
I for one can see no blood
From the hearts and the wrists you allegedly slit
And I for one won't stand for this
If the scene were a parish
Youd all be condemned
Strike up the band woah oh
The conductor is beckoning
Come, congregation, let's sing it like you mean it, no
Dont you get it, dont you get it, now dont you move
Strike up the band woah oh
The conductor is beckoning
Come, congregation, let's sing it like you mean it, no

Do they just name these titles so they can laugh when we struggle? WHY ARE THE TABLES NUMBERED? WHO IS ESTEBAN? WHY IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MARTYRDOM AND SUICIDE?
Mike Matei Inspector Gadget
The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage - a quote from the Chuck Palahniuk novel Survivor
I Constantly Thank God for Esteban - reference to an infomercial that would frequently play advertising Esteban guitars and lessons, by the musician Esteban
Who knows
