He was given the name Papoose by his grandmother because of his childhood resemblance to an American Indian child. Inspired by rap legends Rakim, Kool G Rap and Big Daddy Kane, he has been well respected on the underground hip-hop circuit for a long period of time now.
In early 2006, his StreetSweepers crew linked up with Busta Rhymes' Flipmode Inkprint to co-executive produce Papoose's first official album. On August 24, 2006, his official website officially announced that he signed with Jive Records, a deal which, according to his management's official website was worth $1.5 million.
Papoose has recently become known for engaging in charity work, visiting sick children and donated to causes including the Make-A-Wish Foundation and to various Hurricane Katrina charities.
On September 19, 2007 DJ Kay Slay announced that Papoose and himself have parted ways from Jive records. "We have officially gotten our release from Jive fuckin records. It was like a fuckin year of hell... Unfortunately, we almost became victims of A&R hell." On the radio show slay was asked what was next for Papoose, and he said "You know we can't talk about that man." The future of the Papoose's debut album, The Nacirema Dream, is unknown at this time; however, Papoose and Kay Slay are rumored to own the records that were created under Jive.
Papoose is no longer affiliated with Flipmode Squad.

Hip hop quotable of the month
I'm the DVD most promotional on the front
Most call me Papoose, you could call me
What you want every Thursday, the Drama Hour
I opened up when that storm hit
The south and New Orleans sunk
Me and Kanye the only MC's who spoke up
Taught you how to play monopoly
Rise from the streets
Who am I? I'm the hip hop
Police - they was undercover
But I made them look obvious
Now they some lost souls
They souls is bodyless from
Chest to hustle hard
You heard that track? (I heard that)
God damnit I brought Green Lantern back
I'm the female rapper's favorite male rapper
Dropped 10 mixtapes, I gave y'all chapters
Say my name when you sneeze
Pap it's a blessing
And honor to be in this session
Pete Rock is a legend
I'm the callin' the stress
Of a guns melancholy
High watchin' the judge objectify me
I ever get wet I'm hopin'
The sunset will dry me
Real thugs will come clever wisely
I was always ahead of myself
So now I'm one step behind me
When it comes to thoroughcation
My son's reppin' lively
Even momma's boy carry they
Guns next to mommy
They got jails with more sales than omni
These funny dogs say money talks
None of my funds never polly
Copt one lick shot
None of my tongues never tie me
Shotgun gun shots spread when they
Plunge from the shotty
I doubt if the suns ever try me
Cause all my niggas got bodies on they guns
Guns on they bodies
These hard punks want what
They battery charged up
Claim they got big balls yet
They really large cunts
Since it's everyday war when I spark up
I mix the green weed with brown
& smoke a camoflauge blunt
"Now put that in your pipe and smoke it!"
The lyrics of Papoose's song "Comprehend" convey a sense of self-confidence and pride in his skills as an artist. He starts by expressing that if the world could understand his level of comprehension, all senses would be common. He acknowledges that people develop at different rates and have different timing in their achievements. Papoose takes credit for his accomplishments with precision and warns others not to try to duplicate his unique style.
He goes on to highlight his recognition as a mixtape artist of the year and being featured prominently on DVDs. Papoose refers to himself as the "hip hop police," suggesting that he speaks up for the genre and its authenticity. He recalls advocating for the victims of Hurricane Katrina alongside Kanye West, criticizing those who didn't stand up for the cause. He also claims to have brought the influential DJ Green Lantern back to the forefront.
Papoose takes pride in being a favorite of female rappers and emphasizes his prolific output of mixtapes. He playfully suggests that saying his name when sneezing is a blessing and an honor. The mention of producer Pete Rock as a legend concludes the verse.
The second verse delves into the harsh realities and struggles of the streets. Papoose speaks of the judgment and objectification he faces in court. He hopes for a way out of his troubles, symbolized by the sunset drying him after getting wet. He acknowledges his foresight and being one step behind himself, suggesting that he has always been ahead of the game. He proudly mentions his son, who represents him well, even when carrying guns.
Papoose exposes the hypocrisy of those who talk about money but lack real power, emphasizing that he will never be tied down or silenced. He describes the violence and toughness of his crew, noting their readiness to defend themselves. He criticizes those who claim to be tough but are actually weak. The song ends with the line "Now put that in your pipe and smoke it!" implying that Papoose's words are powerful and should be taken seriously.
