Pity the Sadness
Paradise Lost Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sadness lives after we die
The pains of life increased outright
Contempt and sins priorities...
To cush good fortune
Morning...

Morning's calm, inside cry
This painful live has raped my mind
Take me down, slow release
From sorrow's penetration
Morning...

Life is there for me
Hell is there for me

Sunlight greets my opn wounds
Morning's light reflects the doom
My soul is free, it lives again
To roam alone in darkness
Morning...

I've cried for God
And I've cried for you
I pray that in the end
Your sense will break though

Sadness lives after we die
The pains of life increased outright

Contest my sins priorities
Crushed my spirit to its knees

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Paradise Lost's "Pity The Sadness" are rich with emotion and imagery, exploring themes of pain, sorrow, and a search for meaning in life. The first stanza sets the tone for the entire song, reflecting on how sadness is a part of life that continues even after death. The second stanza is a vivid description of how life's suffering has taken a toll on the singer's mind, leaving them feeling helpless and wanting to escape. The phrase "morning's calm, inside cry" is particularly powerful, conveying the juxtaposition between the appearance of serenity and the turmoil within. The third stanza introduces a sliver of hope, with the singer acknowledging that life and even Hell are possibilities. The use of light and darkness throughout the second and third stanzas demonstrates the contrast between good and evil. The final stanza is a plea for redemption, with the singer hoping that their cries for God and another person will not be in vain, and that clarity will ultimately prevail.

Overall, the song's lyrics speak to the constant struggle to find meaning in life amidst pain and sorrow. The tone is melancholic, but there are moments of hope and resilience as well. The imagery of light and darkness contributes to the atmosphere, and the repeated use of "morning" underscores the idea of a new beginning and potentially brighter future.

Shades of God is a masterpiece, I remember when I was fourteen yrs old and I fell in love with that album, it's a part of my soul.

Actually, depsite the fact that I bought that record when it came out - it felt always a bit unsatisfying for me. I really wanted to love it - as much as Gothic for example. But I actually didnt. Not saying that is a bad album in any regard but Gothic and Icon delivered it more for me.
