At the end of 1994 Martin had written enough songs to record the first “official” release “WORLD OF SIN”. Today Paragon is one of the leading bands within German metal.
2. Paragon (Simon Molin), Swedish rapper from Södermalm, Stockholm. Member of the group (and record) Hemmalaget. 5. The Dutch Rock Band Paragon was founded in 1993 by guitar player Erwin van der Ven and bass player Jeroen Verkroost, as a new incarnation of their previous band Pentagon (1989 - 1992). In 1992, Paragon recorded their first demo tape and played first live shows. The repertoire was crossover progressive/heavy rock. In 1993 the band was joined by singer Freek Paardenkooper and switched to a lighter style of Rock with some Grunge influences. In 1995 Drummer Koos de Wit joined and Paragon released an EP with 5 tracks. These were re-recorded for the 1997 “BALANCE THE SCALES” CD, which received good reviews in the Dutch press. Paragon toured the Dutch small-club circuit extensively until early 1998, after which the band disbanded.
Maze of Dread
Paragon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The hallway never ends
A million ways to change my fate
Trapped in a wonderland
Rays of light leading nowhere
Mirrors on the walls
An unknown fate's awaiting me
I hear nails scratching on stones
Fear the sound of breaking bones
Life and death will unite
In this deadly trap
Pain and fear in the night
Caught in a maze of dread
No time to choose no time to wait
A force I can't escape
Destiny is marking my way
Visions are taking shape
Walls of fire at my back
The past is gonna burn
A fire-breath is on my track
Hell awaits my turn
Run from the fire
Feel sweat and tears
Demonic fire
Caught in a maze of fear
The lyrics to Paragon's song "Maze of Dread" describe a metaphorical maze that the singer finds themselves in. The maze is represented by a hallway with a never-ending amount of doors and various ways to change their fate. However, it seems like the maze is a dark place that the singer is unable to escape. They describe their surroundings as having rays of light that lead to nowhere and mirrors on the walls, which may allude to a sense of confusion and illusion. The singer also emphasizes the unknown fate that awaits them and the tumbling worlds that are beginning to fall around them.
As the song progresses, the singer's fear starts to manifest itself in tangible ways as they hear nails scratching on stones and the sound of breaking bones. The singer knows that life and death will unite in this deadly trap, which emphasizes the direness of their situation. They also describe the maze as a place of pain and fear in the night, where they are caught in a maze of dread. All the while, the singer feels a force they cannot escape from and their destiny is being marked by visions that are taking shape. The singer feels walls of fire closing in behind them, representing their past burning away, and a fire-breath hot on their track that will lead to them being trapped in the deadly maze of fear.
