The song "Somebody" by Patrice Roberts is a dynamic soca party anthem that calls for a partner to dance with. The chorus of the song repeatedly emphasizes the singer's search for "somebody" to dance with, signaling a need for companionship and connection on the dancefloor. The lyrics convey a sense of pure joy and excitement for life, with the music being described as "sweeter than food." The song also emphasizes the physicality of dancing, with lyrics like "whine up" and "push back" urging the listener to move their body in sync with the rhythm.
The song has a pulsing, energetic beat that is common in soca music, and it features both English and Trinidadian dialect. The repetition of the word "somebody" in the chorus is a common trope in soca music, emphasizing the social nature of the genre as well as its roots in Caribbean carnival culture.
