No Mistakes

Be brave, and show no fear around me
I believe in my eyes and something just fell from the sky
Be great, but know the strength
Be brave and show your teeth with your peace
‘Cause one of these days they will destroy this whole fucking town
Things are only half as good since those days
Wish I know in every likelyhood I’m insatiable
Guess I’ll only know myself again
No mistakes, no mistakes, you must be supremely unleashed
Supremely unleashed
I don’t know what will happen next, but I’ll wait for you
Guess I always told myself that I could
Know it’s only right and good to go straight to you
I’ll always be a few away chairs to chat
That’s right, you caught me untravel
Ease of the night stop me, stop me
Ease away, everybody is on anyone else
Ease from inside, to stuck in everybody
That’s right, that’s right
I don’t know what will happen next, but I’ll wait for you
Things are only half as good since those days
Knowing every likelyhood I’m insatiable
So I’ll always be a few pay checks to chance
I don’t know what will happen next, but I’ll wait for you
The lyrics to Paul Banks's song "No Mistakes" seem to be centered around encouraging someone to be their best selves without fear of failure, showing bravery and strength. Banks sings, "Be great and no mistakes, be brave and show no fear around me", implying that there is someone he is directing these words towards. He believes in this person's potential and sees greatness in them, but he also acknowledges the difficulty of achieving that greatness, saying, "Cause one of these days they will destroy this whole fucking town".
Despite the challenges and uncertainty, Banks sings that he will "wait for you" and "always be a few away chairs to chat", suggesting that he is a supportive presence for this person as they navigate their journey. The lyric "ease of the night stop me, stop me" implies that there may be obstacles and distractions that could prevent the person from reaching their goals, but Banks encourages them to push through and not let these obstacles hold them back.
Overall, the song seems to be about the importance of self-belief and perseverance in the face of challenges, while also highlighting the role that support and encouragement from others can play in helping someone reach their full potential.

Super performance by Banks in Copenhagen last week. I wasn't fan of either Interpol og Plenti before the concert, but the live performance by Banks and his band members was just so intense and well-played that I can't stop listening to his music now.

Since October I can't stop listening to this record on loop. It's SO good! I'm happy that Paul decided to do it. Also because, now that Carlos has left, there will be a new balance inside Interpol and I feel like it's a good thing that - thanks to this album- Paul had the chance to define(can't find a better word)how he has evolved as a musician from the pre-Interpol days of Julian Plenti, aside from Interpol. Same goes for Sam and Empty Mansions. I think that it will enrich Interpol next album.
