The lyrics of Paul Miles-Kingston's "Pie Jesu" are a prayer for the peace of departed souls. The repetition of "Pie Jesu," which means "Merciful Jesus," emphasises the plea for mercy and forgiveness, both for the departed souls and for the living who mourn them. The phrase "Qui tollis peccata mundi" means "who takes away the sins of the world" and is a reference to Jesus' role as the savior in Christian theology. The line "Dona eis requiem" translates to "grant them rest," further underscoring the prayerful nature of the song.
The second half of the lyrics introduce the phrase "Agnus Dei," which means "Lamb of God," another reference to Jesus as the savior. The repetition of "Dona eis requiem" reinforces the plea for peace and rest for the departed. The final line "Sempiternam requiem" means "eternal rest," providing a finality to the prayer.
Overall, the lyrics to "Pie Jesu" are a somber and reflective prayer for peace and rest for those who have passed on, as well as a reminder of Jesus' role as the savior in Christian faith.

I looked this up because of Malaki's performance as well. It makes me cry everytime I hear it but I cant stop listening. I imagine this is the "muzak" of Heaven.

I certainly am. I remember it well when it was first released. It's an absolutely exquisite performance and setting of this sacred text. It still brings tears to my eyes. I also remember first hearing it to the soundtrack from where the images of this video come: a film called Hope & Glory.
