Merrill Nisker (born 1966 in Toronto), better known as Peaches, is an electroclash artist whose songs are mainly focused on sexuality. She lives and works in Berlin, Germany. She plays almost all the instruments for her songs, programs her own electronic beats, and produces her records.
Peaches' music is preoccupied with gender identity. Her lyrics and live shows self-consciously blur the distinction between male and female: she appears on the cover of her second album Fatherfucker with a full beard; when asked if she had chosen the title for shock value, she commented:
"Why do we call our mothers motherfuckers? Why do we stub our toe and say "Aww motherfucker!"? What is motherfucker? ...We use it in our everyday language and it's such an insanely intense word. I'm not one to shy away from these obscene terms that we actually have in our mainstream. Motherfucker is a very mainstream word. But if we're going to use motherfucker, why don't we use fatherfucker? I'm just trying to be even."
She refutes accusations of 'penis envy', preferring the term 'hermaphrodite envy', since "there is so much male and female in us all". Nevertheless, she does not shy away from identifying herself as a sexual being, although she rejects the sanitised portrayal of women in popular music.
Although she does not hold a teaching degree, she taught at private schools before her career in music.
Fancypants Hoodlum released in 1995 was released under her birth name Merrill Nisker
Members of her band are known as The Herms - JD Samson, Radio Sloan, Samantha Maloney.
Her songs have been featured in movies such as Mean Girls, My Little Eye, Lost in Translation, Waiting, and Jackass: Number Two. Her music has also been featured on Showtime's The L Word television series. Peaches performed guest vocals on P!nk's album Try This, on the song "Oh My God". Her lyrics are discussed as part of the Queer Studies course curriculum at the University Of Toronto, and she has been invited to lecture at the Contemporary Music Academy in Berlin. Her most notorious song, "Fuck The Pain Away", is also the name of an Electro night in Brighton.

I bat my lash and outlast the backlash
Fuck that past that passed so fast
I snatch that gas and rise from the ash
Some call me trash some call me nasty
Call me crass but you can't match me
I'm a smash on me like a parrot
Uh uh [x4]
Hair in a mullet you know you gotta love it
So sexual and so conceptual
Figure me out trying to catch a bout
Contagious outrageous courageous crank 'em
I'm on your big feet like airport security
Looking complete then I'm in obscurity
Fuck maturity got a big bad brain
And my champagne stain as I yank your chain
I don't give a fuck if you're calling me
I don't give a fuck if you're mauling me

The lyrics to Peaches's song "Serpentine (I Don't Give A...)" are all about her unapologetic attitude and rejecting anyone who tries to bring her down. She embraces her unconventional appearance and doesn't care about others' opinions of her. She begins by boasting about how she has successfully transitioned into the electroclash genre and outlasting the criticism she received along the way. Peaches then acknowledges that some people might view her as "trash," "nasty," or "crass," but that doesn't bother her because no one can "match" her. She continues to assert herself by saying that she is not interested in trying to conform to society's norms, which is evident in her "mullet" hairstyle. Peaches is confident in herself despite other people's negative judgments and is willing to be different to stand out.
Furthermore, Peaches is explicit that she understands there is no straight line to success. Her intentions are clear, and no one can make her change her direction. She sings about how she doesn't care whether anyone calls her, follows her or even falls for her because she is in control of her own destiny. The chorus emphasizes her refusal to conform to society's expectations and to stay true to herself, specifically shown in the lyrics "Serpentine serpentine, Never a straight line serpentine." Peaches shows listeners that sometimes walking the straight line is not what works for everyone, and sometimes, it's best to carve your own path. The bottom line, Peaches is clear about her message, and that is to stay authentic and ignore the opinions of those who doubt you.
Overall, "Serpentine (I Don't Give A...)" by Peaches is a song about self-love, acceptance, and staying true to your path despite any criticism you face. She puts a sharp twist on a kind of mantra that says that accepting who you are and not giving into what others think is the most effective path to success.
