Mind Your Manners
Pearl Jam(???) Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I feel I don't believe and now the truth is coming out
What they've taken is more than a vow
They've taken your innocence and then they throw them on a burning fire
All along they're sayin' mind your manners
I caught myself believin' that I needed God
Try my patience, my patience tried
This world's no longer good enough that makes me wanna cry
All along they're sayin' mind your manners
Silence save him
Self-realized and metaphysically redeemed
May not live another life
May not solve a mystery
Right around the corner
Could be bigger than ourselves
We could will it to the sky
Or we could something else
No longer sayin' mind your manners
Always burning
Self-realized and metaphysically redeemed
May not live another life
May not solve a mystery
Right around the corner
Could be bigger than ourselves
We could will it to the sky
Or we could something else
Go to Heaven
That's swell
How do you like it
Livin' Hell
Go to Heaven
That's swell
How do you like it
Livin' Hell
Go to Heaven
That's swell
How do you like it
Livin' Hell
Livin' Hell!
The main theme of Pearl Jam's song Mind Your Manners is about feeling beaten down and the loss of innocence. The lyrics suggest that the truth is finally coming out, which can be seen as the singer's frustration towards those who have taken advantage of him in some way. The repetition of the phrase "mind your manners" throughout the song can be interpreted as both a cautionary reminder to be careful in life and a sarcastic jab at those who have hurt him.
The contrast between the spiritual imagery of God (who can bring people comfort in tough times) and the harsh reality of the world is also highlighted, with the singer expressing his desire for something bigger and better than the current state of things. Additionally, there is an underlying message of taking action – either by willing change towards a better future or simply accepting the negative experiences that may come one's way. All in all, the lyrics explore the complex emotions of frustration, disillusionment, and the search for a greater purpose.

I love how Pearl Jam doesn't give a crap about what their music sounds like to other people, they produce what they want to produce. Which is clear from this album. You get this song, and then you get a song like Sleeping By Myself which is almost the polar opposite.

@@muzuhope4206 i see alternative rock as a term for music that can stretch from punk to post punk to heavy metal to grunge and etc. As far as i know, It was a synonym for underground hard rock bands in the 80s with a heavy influence from Punk, and up untill the 90s it was grunge.
