Sous le soleil marocain
Perchicot Lyrics

The lyrics of "Sous le soleil marocain" by Perchicot tell the heartbreaking story of a couple who fall in love but are separated by circumstances beyond their control. They are in love but they are also poor, which puts a strain on their relationship. One day, the man steals from his parents to impress his lover, and as a result, he is forced to join the army and is sent off to the Moroccan desert to fight. The distance is painful, and the two of them feel lonely and remember their love fondly. The desert landscape that the soldier finds himself in is stark and unforgiving, and he is haunted by memories of his lost love.
The second verse sees the couple parted even more drastically. The soldier writes a letter to his lover, saying that he has a son with an angelic blonde woman but he still loves her dearly. The desert is still present in his mind, and he remembers his lost love with nostalgia. But his fate is sealed in the final verse, where he faces death on the field of battle, seeing his enemy one last time before he dies. The desert is still there, but now it's a place of finality, a place where he is destined to be buried.
Perchicot's "Sous le soleil marocain" is a tragic tale of love and separation, accentuated by the harsh desert landscape of Morocco. It is accompanied by a mournful melody that captures the heartache and sorrow of the lovers, making it a memorable and moving piece of music.

In the joy that intoxicates and grips me
Mais des burnous blancs

Et des coups de feu
And gunshots
Alertent le camp
Alert the camp
Quand fermant les yeux
When closing his eyes
Le petit soldat
The young soldier
Tomb' le coeur troué
Fell, heart pierced
En r'voyant là-bas
Seeing them again there
Ceux qu'il va quitter
Those he'll be leaving
And it's for them, in a final breath
That he says again, already close to death.
Adieu! adieu! mon enfant, ma jolie
Goodbye! Goodbye! My child, my pretty one
Without seeing you again, I'm leaving life
Sans vos baisers, je connais l'agonie
Without your kisses, I know agony
Seule une croix, demain sera mon destin
Only a cross will be my destiny tomorrow
